Hello Fcar enthusiasts, I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this car on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220242523334&ssPageName=STRK:MEDW:VRI It has been on there a while . I really like the colour and always wanted a V12. I did a search here and only found one entry. It says that the car was talked about abit, but I could not find any other threads. I do not mind doing my own work on a vehicle - if the price is right. I have been reading the threads in this section. Lots of good stuff here. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Chris
Chris Welcome to FChat and your first post! I think that you will find a great bunch of Ferrari experts and enthusiasts on this site but please fill out your profile and tell us a bit about yourself so that we can get to know you better. As for the car, the buy it now price has come down $3k so I guess that is an improvement from 2 months ago when it was $23.5K. Looks pretty rough interior wise, I can only imagine what that dash looks like underneath if that hideous carpet over it is an improvement! The exhaust hanger attachments on the test pipes where the cats go look very bizarre and amateurish. Looks like an MSD ignition module in place of the original dinoplex (not that that is a bad thing, the MSD probably works as well or better than the original and will be far more stable or able to withstand a jumpstart than the original as well as being much cheaper to replace if anything does go wrong. This car is one that most likely needs to be seen in person, service records examined and if things check out at that point to where a reasonable price can be negotiated, then a thorough PPI is called for. In other words, it looks like a reasonable car with some visible needs but potentially some very expensive needs that are not apparent. Check out that extensive service history since I believe that this car was offered briefly last September by Michael Sheehan ($22.5K) and I think that he stated that there were no service records.
This car has been for sale FOREVER! Not sure why, but I suspect there must be SOME REASON! I am looking for the right 400i myself, but really not ready to buy till I can pay cash near the end of this year or the first of next if things to look up in the Big Pharma industry. Good luck w/ your V12 F-car search! There are plenty of good ones for reasonable prices out there, so don't get sucked in to an iffy one that is cheap but will cost more than the amount you paid for the car to make it something you can be proud of! Best, James Austin, TX
Please pardon my attitude Chris, maybe its because I don't feel well today and I'm being cranky, but jeesh I've been reading this same ad forever and its really sad. Read the 3rd and 4th words of the ad. He's already telling you the car is not in top condition. I'm always wary (spell that right?) of sellers who obviously don't have any idea what they are selling. "...factory options including automatic transmission, central door locking, power windows, air conditioning." Yep, those were popular options. As a matter of fact I think every owner ordered thier car with thoe options. Anyone find a listing for "Ferrari Technologies" in Orange County? I couldn't. "The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone ..." thats not where 400's rust. First of all the floors are FIBERGLASS. Wonder why they don't show a picture of the splitting dash so you can see how bad it is or isn't a/c not working probably isn't a huge deal and you can still get the parts. Dan at Ricambi has them in stock. Looking at that scraped up steering wheel will drive you crazy each time you drive it, plan on replacing it. That'll cost you Pretty color combo. Black is a great color for these cars, sure looks nice on the outside Drilled through that backglass for the cell phone? Oh my! Its really strange looking at the center console of an automatic. It always sends up a red flag and seems wrong to me until I remember that the center console on an auto and a 5-speed are reversed. Whew! Look at the engine bay. Sure looks like more than the stated miles to me. I wonder how many guys know what those fiberglass things are that surround the spare wheel Thats the original tool kit and first aid kit. THATS worth some money! Look how nice the front lens are. No cracks and the amber is great looking. 1991 for sale Checkered Flag (CA) 28k miles 8/07 for sale Dalgleish Lenard Investments on Ebay (FL) 44k miles, MSD box, MPH speedo, setup for handicapped driver (hand controls), has CA bar sticker 9/07 for sale at Michael Sheehan's 11/07 for sale Ebay (CA) $29.5k 45k miles, hand controls have been removed 12/07 price lowered to $26.5k 2/08 price lowered to $23.5k, I find it offensive (but again maybe its just me) how we devote more room to telling you how you'll lose your deposit and get bad feedback than we devote to describing what we're selling. Get a PPI done if you're really interested. As other have said, ask to have the servicee records fax'd to you so you can see what has been done.
Chris- I'm relatively close by, yet I wouldn't dedicate an afternoon to go look at this car just based upon the photos and description, let alone Dave's thorough opinion. Could they not try to tidy this car up --at least a little!-- for the photos? It's the little things that will eat you up on these cars. Run, don't walk. Hey guys, thanks for the great info. I really appreciate it. This car caught my attention because of the price - low for an Fcar. Of course I started researching 400`s and found this site which is excellent! I hadn`t considered a 400/412 before( did not know they existed), and they appeal to me. I can just imagine taking the family to dinner or a quick trip to the mountains but mostly just cruising around. Ah yes. Back to reality, It is good to know that this car is not a buy it an drive it type of car. I still like it but not for that price.I have no problem with working on it, in fact I relish the thought. Particularly during the snowy months. I would still like to find something nicer though - like that beautiful red 412 in Calgary. He is asking $51,900. Too steep for me right now. I will fill my profile and subscribe later when I not so busy. Thanks again, Chris
Boy, the seller really has a bad case of hyperboleitis, Reknown (for what?)twice and even religion employed in the care and history of this one. The car will speak for itself. It's pretty clear the seller shouldn't be trusted, but that doesn't automatically make the car bad. Just remember to disregard anything represented he can't back up. Dave, you mention drilling the back glass. What do you see that I don't? Isn't that back glass tempered?
I would like to warn of a pitfall when looking at these cars, You will notice there are a lot of cars that need a lot of $. but priced well, "bottom feeder cars". You will then come across a car that is well maintained and nice but you will not buy becouse you remember the price on the bottom feeder car and you can not do it. So I would suggest prepping your self to be able to spend the $$ when you find a nice one.
Take a close look at the picture of the back of the car. Look in the center of the top of the backglass. See the antenna for the cell phone?
Dave, your slipping (hahahaha), must be the current illness, but look at the wheel weights on the back wheels, ON THE OUTSIDE ! This car has been handled by non-Ferrari rispettorazini. With all the current comments, stay away from this ride. l'automobile è un progetto della sfera della neve !!
