Go the following page: http://www.gofastvideo.com/gallery/item/predownload/757/1/free-racing-videos/s2000-vs-ferrari-360.html "Right Click" (where it says Click here to play video) then "Save Target As" I don't know anything about the video, any info would be appreciated. Man, this guy can drive. I hope this is not a repost.
The guys in the 360's suck. The have no idea how to drive them. Its all about the driver, I have seen guys who are really good drivers in big luxury cars beat Modena's on the track. The guy who is driving the S2000 is decent. Vic
I havent seen the video as Im still downloading it but the gofastvideo.com website is also hosted by the same folks that run s2ki.com. I wouldnt be surprised if the driver of the s2k is Ryan H or Dave K who are very active with speedventures. Ryan and Dave are pretty damn fast in their s2000s Cheers,
Just by looking at the driving lines you can notice that the Honda is pushing it way harder than the ferraris. For example the Ferraris very seldom hit the curbs whilst the Honda is on them all the time. Don't know where that is filmed, but since the track has so narrow safety zones, I know I would be scared to push a Ferrari (or any other car for that sake) to the limit.
Just saw the video good stuff! Not sure who is driving and what track they are on but it looks like they are all having a great time.
Driver and Car. It's not that hard to fathom. A good time at Summit Point for a bone stock 360 CS on Pirelli Rossa tires would most likely be around 1:20-1:21. In Honda Challenge, race prepped H1 S2000's are running 1:23's and this is with motors that make a little more than stock (about 250 at the crank). The S2000 in the video is not stock. It's a Mugen tuned one (290 hp at the wheels) and it's been lightened up by about 200 pounds. It's some Italian guy. The track in the video is Varano which is well suited for smaller lower powered sports cars. Here is a link to his other videos: http://www.teamgt.it/video.htm And a picture of his not so ordinary S2000. Regards, Jon P. Kofod www.flatoutracing.net Image Unavailable, Please Login
Racing is all about getting power to the ground via input to the brain. That said, this wasn't racing. It looked like a track day. Hmm... the Honda is worth, maybe, $35k. The two Ferraris are worth, say, $300k. I guess that it is the old accountant in me; but I doubt that I'd be driving the Ferraris anywhere near 7/10s. Now, if I was driving my Spec Miata? ROCK 'N ROLL! Dr "Penny Pincher" Who
I found the hand waving gesture by the Honda driver funny at the end, heh. If it weren't for the straights, the Honda would've passed them, but I don't know if the 360 drivers were really pushing it (it looked like they were braking early and their lines weren't great). Btw, I think it was the CS and not the regular 360 (the side skirts and the emblem on the right side of the Challenge grill make it look like a CS). Thanks for the video.
Dale, How's the Spec Miata doing. Any pictures? When you are going to take the plunge and race? I might be doing the 12 Hour at Summit Point in a Miata with last years Pro Spec Miata champion (Payton Wilson). Regards, Jon
Yes, they are Stradales, not being pushed very hard. The S2000 driver looks much better than decent to me-- great line, great feel for corrective steering when on the power, great threashold braking, heal and toe, etc. As for the hand waving at the end, the Ferrari's shut it down in the middle of the straight, I think he was reacting to almost rear ending a $200,000 Ferrari.
Right now, I'm using it as my daily driver (fortunately, I don't drive much on a daily basis). But I'm planning on getting a Boxster S and turning this into a full-time track car. I don't have never the car racing experience that most of you do, but I have to say that the Spec Miata is more than a hoot. My grand total investment is $13k. One boo boo in a Stradale would cost more than that! Dale
I totally agree with you, then S2000 was hitting those rumble strips all the time and using the full width of the track. Yes the track did look tight compared to others. But it looked like a lot of fun.
I don't think Mugen tuned cars make near that much power. The Mugen catalog lists ECU, airbox, headers, and exhaust as the main power improving parts. Cars with all the Mugen goodies have dyno'ed at 220-230rwhp compared to about 200rwhp for a stock S2000. IMHO, the track potential of the Mugen cars is attributable more to the excellent Mugen N1 coilover suspension system than the power mods.
I think it may have a Comptech supercharger. His site is in Italian but there is mention of Comptech. I don't know the specifics but there was someone on Honda-Tech.com that knew of the driver and the engine I am sure was boosted. Regards, Jon
I did a bit of searching. The driver is celima. Here is info on the car: http://www.fastdrive.org/content.php?article.289 It turns out that it does not have all Mugen parts, but a bit of mix and match. Still, it is normally aspirated - not really a big power car.
The only thing that makes fast cars fast are fast drivers, plain and simple. Unless its a classstructured race or battle, you can'tcompare cars from different classes.
There are some other interesting videos at that same site. This one didn't end so well http://www.gofastvideo.com/gallery/item/predownload/147/1/free-racing-videos/sc-honda-s2000---dave-kennedy.html
That's not too bad, as far as accidents go. It looked like he hit the rumble strips, tire blew out and he spun out, right? Or did he hit the wall?
No, the hub severed off. (hence: caption) Dave's S2000 has been through quite a bit. Here's what it looked like in 2003: http://www.buymeaferrari.com/gallery/otc03/DCP_4186 http://www.buymeaferrari.com/gallery/otc03/DCP_4287 pictures below are the result of the broken hub.
