    I traded my 2010 Audi S5 Cab for a 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S yesterday;white with black interior and 7 speed manual. I missed having a manual in my daily driver and had originally planned on ordering a new Audi RS5, until it was announced that it would come in dual-clutch only. What's the world coming to when you can get a Cadillac with a three pedal manual, but not an RS5 or Ferrari? Anyway, I love the 911 and can't wait to my first track event!

    Ugh, I agree! Kudos to Porsche for keeping manuals available.

    Congrats on the new purchase! I would love to have a 911 as a daily.

    I don't know for how long though? Porsche now sells most of its new 911s with PDK, not three pedal manuals. In fact, one of the Porsche dealers I went to had nothing but PDK 911s.

    Couldn't have said it better. I am fed up with all these automatics. Call it F1, PDK, XYZ, ABC if you want, but at the end of the day it is merely an automatic. I'll keep my standard trannys thanks. PS, if you haven't spent much time in a Porsche you I would advise against trail-braking or lifting mid turn. You will most likely spin unless you've got some quick arms on you. If the back does come out, push down on the loud pedal and put an extra turn of lock in. That should save you from just about any situation.

    Looks like the 3 pedal car is going the way of the dinosaur...which I regret. Every year there are fewer models with manuals.

    Thank goodness my wife will only drive a stick. So we have 3 cars with a stick including one Pcar and my Fcar with F1.

    The dealership here does a good job of keeping a fairly even amount of sticks and autos. I think it depends upon your area and what the area presents in terms of the average Porsche buyer. For whatever reason, we have a good amount of hard core enthusiasts around here who will not buy an auto P-car.

    I don't know how long they will hold out, but let's hope they will stick to their guns. I seem to remember Porsche saying that they are committed to offering manual transmissions as long as drivers want them.

    I'm also hoping that this fascination with auto-manuals, etc. is a fad that may ease and allow manuals to come back into fashion. I know some people will say the cars are getting too fast and powerful, blah blah, but at some point, more involved driving may become appealing again.

    there is a good reason porsche is making most of its vehicles with the pdk.
    that is what the public prefers.
    paddle shifting the new pdk is similar to driving the 458.
    i have had 3 911's in the past, all were manual shifting cars.
    my new 911s cab has a pdk with a paddle shifting wheel.
    i find it much more enjoyable than the manual transmission.
    i applaud porsche for allowing the option for a manual transmission.

    I went from an S5 with 7 speed dual clutch one day to a Porsche 7 speed manual the next and find the manual a much more enjoyable driving experience.

    I just got back last night from an ~1100 mile road trip from Atlanta to Orlando and back and my 991s was a delight to drive. I averaged 30.5mpg driving 75-85 most of the way. And, the SpeedFilm I had applied last week did an amazing job of protecting the paint; I cleaned her this morning and could not find a single rock chip.

    Driving a sports car, such as a 911, with an PDK-automatic is like paying a gigolo to have sex with your wife. The gigolo may do a better job than you, but it's still more fun to do it yourself.
