I am venting - last night I went to see Paul Simon - the Paul Simon - at the downtown auditorium. It was the most amazing concert I have ever been to, with Paul still energetic and delivering an amazing songbook of 40 years of his music that really defined several generational musical directions.

The auditorium was maybe 40% full with maybe 2000 people or so. This same guy that brought hundreds of thousands into Central Park. Amazing. He walked out and looked over the small but engaged crowd and said "The enlightened few", smiled and said "I know how you feel". He then gave 110% for an amazing experience. The crowd gave him repeated standing ovations with two curtain call sets. Amazing.

    What's up with this town?

San Antonio, as much as I want to move back, can hardly be called the Mecca of cultural appreciation. In college my roomates and I, after a few beers, decided to head to see Grave Digger at the "Monster Jam". Guess what, SOLD OUT. Every seat in the Alamo Dome was taken.Given the population is half hispanic, I doubt that the population of 20-40 year olds could name a Paul Simon song if they even know who he is. You should consider yourself luck that you were able to go and not be crowded and have to deal with long lines.

Count your blessings. Paul Simon puts on a hell of a show. I would've come to see him in a setting that small.

Tillman is obviously to young and unenlightened to appreciate it. :)

I have to agree with PaulC, San Antonio is not really big on concerts. I have heard of many good bands that come here and it is rarely it sells out. San Antonio folks have to be able to relate to the singer or we are about 40% hispanic, I diddnt even know he was in town. Yet, George Streight came and bam tickets were sold out in a day, thats SAn Antonio...

Hey, I know who he is -- I listen to oldies stations sometimes. I just thought he had died sometime back after that video with Chevy Chase. Good to know he's still kicking

Lives in Dallas, but I never see him play much locally.

I'm not aware of too many things, I know what I know if you know what I mean. :D

Aside from that, one thing that really sucks about SA is their music stations; I miss the variety that Houston stations offered.

I know he married East Dallas girl Edie Brickell, but didn't know they were still together. They used to frequent Barbec's, an old breakfast dive on Garland Road with beer batter biscuits. Saw he and Garfunkel at AAC 2 years ago, and it was one of the best concerts I have seen in 10 years.

And also, obtw, his UNBILLED warm up band was Jerry Douglas! For the unenlightened, Jerry is recognized as the greatest Dobro player that has ever lived, and also plays in Union Station with Alison Krause (my honey). I would have payed just to see Jerry.
As I think back, this concert did not even get any airplay on the radio - not even KONO - that I heard.

At this rate I'll probably hear Paul McCartney at Sam's Burger Joint on Thursday Blues sit-in (a great time if you've never gone)

I think everyone that appreciated them in the past appreciate them now, but once you hit 30's you don't do as many concerts. Teens and 20's we use to do a big concert almost every month and other weekends you are always out seeing local live music. I don't do any of my hobbies as much as I would like to anymore. Old means slow and busy.

The shows that are gathering the large crowds are for the kiddies.

And the little that you feel like you now do is about to be cut by 75%. When is it, December? :)

    I don't have hobbies anymore, I don't have time.

I had no idea he was in town. We would have gone. One of my patient's mothers went, we talked about it yesterday in clinic. Sounds like we missed a good concert.

    SA doesn't publicize jack. Irritating.

Used to see Edie and her old band down in Deep Ellum way before her breakout. Nice voice. Hadn't thought of her in ages.

Alison Krause plays here? I've heard Jerry too. Huge town, but if it isn't country or tejano, no press.

Once you have little kids, movies, concerts, etc. are a bear to get to. The patient's mom took her 7yo daughter, she fell asleep. Our two would be dancing, but we'd pay the next day.

How are ya Russ? John, got your PM, I'm well, hope I can see the gang soon.

If Jimpo(hey dude) means what he knows is what he knows then congrats Rob. Will rock your world. Best to you and Jennie. LMK for advice on PD md if you wish.

No, they drive out to Helotes or Gruene for culture, LOL!

You missed a good one last Friday, Sfumato, they even left room for dancin'...stayed at a ranch with young Ms. Comal County Rodeo, no rooms ANYWHERE!

There's weeds in the middle of the river...OPEN THE DAM! LOL!

Paul Simon was written up with good reviews here, as well. Hard to be commercial and a true artist these days.....
