I heard recently they changed the rules in NSW from a $70 fine to losing pts(3?) from your license maybe something to ask about before changing them :) (i know u not in NSW but some road laws are nationwide)

Thanks, I've found a signwriter in the city who seems confident - we'll see how it goes.

Speedcore, you are right. I suspect it isn't legal here either but the cops generally give me the thumbs up, so I should be alright. I've had a stick on plate for nearly 2 years with no probs.

I got pulled up in the 360 and the Cop told me that anything but the original plate was illegal. I got off because the 360 front is curved and you can't bend a metal and enamel heritage plate. He accepted the sticker under those circumstances (plus he wanted a photo of himself and the car). Still booked me for the slick Hoosier tyres though :(

Yes; but I have a heritage plate on my CSL too. Same deal, sticker on front, real plate on the back. I have quite literally had dozens of interactions with the Police in that car and the issue has never, ever come up. The sticker on the front is the same size as the plate and just as legible. I have even had one cop look at the sticker and ask me how heritage plates worked. Not why is it a sticker; but what is the deal with them.

yes yes yes...i realise that...same here. i was just saying that they're illegal, not that anyone necessarily cares.

A cop took the plates off my BB once though...he was a total prick. I was SO happy to beat him in court

Another nice thing about heritage plates- The Police are not allowed to remove them.

I meet a person recently who expanded on his personal experience with a police officer who attempted to remove his non-victorian number plate by challenging the officer that if he removed his number plate he would have the officer charged with aggrevated robbery.

At this the officer laughed until the driver opened his jacket and stated that he did not have a gun but the officer did, thereby placing the owner at risk if he tried to protect his property from the police officer. In effect if the driver tried to protect his property, the number plate, from effectively being stolen he was placing himself in physical danger. Hence the basis of the aggrevated robbery claim.

It worked. The police officer stopped laughing and went a pale grey and left him alone.

What is the actual legislation that permits a police officer to remove an ordinary vehicle registration number plate and not a heritage number plate?
