The Tower Theater is still there and is still operating, as is the Tower Cafe (in the same building). Tower Records/Books/Video was across the street. Two different businesses.
How bout that figure of the horse on its hind legs near the on ramp to 99 @ Mack road. Either that or the Frat rocks right when you leave davis going into sac from 80. Also theres that weird junkyard place filled with odd stuff on power inn between elder creek and gerber.
Is that Dixie Paddlewheeler still in business near Old Sac? Went out on a dinner / work thing up and down the river about ten years ago. It was a lot of fun!
Yep, the Spirit of Sacramento makes trips up and down the river, the Delta King is secured to the dock. Sunrise Mall and Birdcage Mall cruises Herpes Triangle on Howe Avenue Maces on Fair Oaks (now Ruth's Chris) Bradshaw Drive-Ins Ferrari of Sacramento's original building with the underground service facility
nice colin... remember birdcage mall when there really were birdcages in there? and the sunrise mall parking lot before they blocked it all off at night? Herpes Triangle on Howe Avenue.... damn. That goes back a way. I'll throw a few more in the "club" mix... Club Zero - upstairs somewhere downtown. I saw Black Flag there on the early 80's The Shire Road Pub - ran sound there for a few bands. Spent WAY too much time there in my rock and roll days. The ElDorado Saloon - see above The Oasis Ballroom - wasnt old enough to get in so I snuck in ALOT by acting like roady for LOTS of bands. I recall my buddies band opening for City Kid there once.
Ahhh, here is one... The Union Newspaper. anyone remember the phone # for the classifieds dept? I do, it was in their advertisements... Four fifty four, fifty five five five.
I thought it was 444-5555 Wow, you are taking me way back! Yes, I remember the birds at Birdcage, and Sunrise Mall before they gated it. And when you could actually get in a fight down there and not worry about someone pulling a gun. Ahhh the good ol' days! What about Baxter's and Bombays Bicycle Club?
yer right... 444-5555 Wow, Bombay and Baxters. I recall when the bar at the Sunrise Black Angus was pretty hoppin. Then again, a buddy was a bar tender, so we had some fun there. But it got packed with people late at night. Good thing they didnt have security cameras then....

Some of the basements of the businesses that go underneath the sidewalks reveal the brick walls that were used to hold back the fill as they built the road higher. The basement floor was the original level of the town. Much of this can be seen in Old Town Sac. Inside the County Permit office downtown, there is a 1962 airial photo of Sac. Remember when.. - Bobby Mc Gee's opened.. - Epaminandas' Disco closed.. - Elk Grove Park wasn't crowded.. - The "Sac Mile" motorcycle races at the old fairgrounds.. - Harry Martin, Betty Vasquez and Christine Hanson on Ch.3.. - Christine Hanson as Playboy centerfold ;-).. - "Earth Radio" FM 102.. - West Capitol Raceway.. - Cal Expo grand opening.. - The "new" TV transmission tower in Walnut Grove.. - "White Front" store.. - "Captain Sacto" on Saturday mornings..
ahhhhh, Capt Sacto... Remember Capt Mitch? in real life his name is John Reither, he was the Production Manager for KOVR 13 and for many years my boss. Pretty funny working for a man you used to watch as a kid on TV. The Globe Mills Building... wow. or the old KOVR13 studios on Arden way. They were once part of the Rainbow bakery. We found 40 year old coffee cakes in the rafters when we cleaned the place out when we moved to the then new studios in West Sac. Sent them as gifts to friends at 10 and 3... no joke I was at the last Sacto Mile race at Cal Expo. Kenny Roberts took his old TZ750 out for a few laps, lofting the front wheel down the back straight at 140mph then pitching the beast into turn 3. What a sound that bike makes. Do you remember when KZAP threatened to go disco? When Placerville wanted to hold the Olympics? Remeber when you could catch BT Collins stomping around downtown and say howdy?
