How to add a Removable cup holder. First of all I have decided the only place you can logically (for me) put a cup holder is right in front of the passenger seat and center console. I tried it in the glove compartment area but it always felt awkward for me to reach back to get the drink not to mention hitting it with my elbow and the lid movement. A drink in the ash tray is too close to the shifter for spills. A drink holder on the Drivers' side is too cramped. Soon my solution was the passenger side. But I didnt construct anything permanent. Items purchased: Magnetic cupholder One Neodymium magnet. 2x1/2x1/4 minimum Plastic goop Amazon.com: Master Magnetics Black Magnetic Cup Caddy, Model# 07583: Automotive Amazon.com: CMS Magnetics® Grade N45 2x1/2x1/4 Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets 4-Counts Model: NB022-45NM Car/Vehicle Accessories/Parts: Cell Phones & Accessories The magnetic cupholder has an ok magnet when going metal to metal but the Neodymium magnet is needed to pass though the fiberglass wall and give it real hold. A. Unscrew the ash tray so that you have access to the inside of the fiberglass wall of the center console. B. Put the Neodymium magnet up against the inside wall and the Magnetic cupholder up against the outside wall. You need to do this dry test to match polaritys. C. Once the dry test is done slather (slather: such an under appreciated word) on the plastic goop on the magnet and reinsert it in the inside of the console. D. Now adjust the angle and position of the cupholder and corresponding magnet to your liking. I put mine at a 25°-30° angle. The goop on the magnet is still goopy so you can adjust the angle for optimal hold. E. Let dry. Now you have a cupholder strong enough for a 44oz drink that is removable in seconds if needed. Huzzah!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huzzah Note: The cupholder is floating about 1/4 in above the "Robert Garven Extinguisher mount" held suspended by magnetic power (google: "Mormons and how do magnets work" for more info). Ta Da!! Something invisible when not needed but instantaneous assemble when desired. And when some ****** in a Prius cuts you off, and you slam on the brakes with your 44oz Big Gulp...............?
Very nice! Here's another idea... Back when I was embedded in the DeLorean community (another car that doesnt have cupholders) a local friend with one had a "push and pop" cup holder mounted underneath the passenger knee bolster. Truly similar to our 308/328 fuse box cover. That would work fine as well. Stayed hidden when needed yet quickly deployable Image Unavailable, Please Login
Or… if you don't use your radio, you get a Tarus (IIRC) DIN change and cup holder. Fits in a radio slot, looks much like the DeLorean bit but flush in the radio slot. A quick search on Tarus cup holder will bring up plenty of pics. Not as slick as the magnetic mount for sure though!
You curse at him and continue on. Have you ever used Neodymium magnets? If you want get a slightly larger magnet it will just take more force to pop off the holder when you wish to remove it. Besides I'm a 32oz guy myself.
STOP!!! Don't unscrew anything! This is the best cup holder I have ever seen for our type of car. Slides right over the carpet and will hold a big smoothie. This is it in my Alfa Spider. I have one in my 308 in the same spot but the car is out of town in the shop so no pics but you get the idea. I have had these in both cars for about 10 years. Moss Motor Sports sells them (the MG guys) I think this may be a little safer than a magnet. Plus, it is really invisible if you have a black interior. That solution looks pretty good also. The only limitation with it I see is that you cannot choose angle if you wish to tilt it slightly and you cannot choose the height from the ground.
I'm going to use this idea to fix the wife's Solstice. The cupholder in that thing is a ridiculous device.
Since u r at it, why not put drapes on the quarter and rear glass as well. Or neon lights under the rockers, or wide white wall tires. People when is this madness going to stop!

That doesnt look like it would fit in a 308 though unfortunately. Tommy, do you have a link for yours from the Alfa?? I tried googling it, but I am no google ninja. PDG
I bought one similar to this and it actually will either hang off the door with the tab between the door panel and the glass, or will hang on the passenger side with the tab in the open lid of the ashtray. I tried too and didn't see it either. I'll get the catalog out tonight and see if it is in there and still available. I hope so.
