It is so sad news, he was a great person.

No longer than last friday 23rd, I spoke to him again by phone when I was interviewing Romano Bernardoni in Bologna.

He was joking like usual and said he was still in good shape...

I got the sad news from Simona. For me this an especially sad loss as Ubaldo was my mentor when I began writing my books about Lamborghini, and I am sure that without his energy, passion, skills and pure love for Lamborghini, the firm would not have survived the years between 1973 and 1981. He was a perfect Bolognese, funny, savvy, full of spirit and a real friend. Our close friendship developed during the years in a very close bond and I shall miss him very, very much.

The service will held Saturday 31 January at 9,30 am in the San Martino di Bertalia church in Via Bertalia 65, Bologna.

    Stefano

Extremely upsetting to hear. Ubaldo offered me an apprenticeship at Lamborghini in 1985, when I was 16...we kept in touch for many years. In shock. Rest in peace, dear friend!

    RIP Ubaldo...

I interviewed him at his house in 2007 or 2008 and enjoyed meeting a true character, he used to work at Tecno before and Ferruccio's offer came at the right time since the racing world was getting too hectic for his taste.

Ingrid Pussich told me wonderful stories of how he was a naughty boy in the sales office, when the chap responsible for other markets had his back turned he would pinch off the wall chart one of the cars allocated to him and thus re-allocate the sale to himself:)

Lots of such stories, amazing times and he certainly was very imaginative and resourceful to develop sales in Italy in the early days.

He is probably enjoying catching up with Ferruccio in the great sales office in the sky...

    Dear friends,

I'm back now from Sgarzi's funeral. Maria Luisa, Simona and Stefania were conforted by the sight of so many old friends, the church was packed full in a glorious day, sky so clear and sunny that it was almost Tahiti Blue. There were most of the guys of the Old Guard: Dallara, Stanzani, Balboni, Marmiroli, Ceccarani, Moruzzi, Pagani, also Ingrid Pussich, Luciano Rizzoli (of Ferrari fame), Achilli and even Joe Nastasi, flown in from USA to honor Ubaldo, and many other friends.

AFAIK, nobody from today's Lamborghini was present to pay a tribute to a man that was, for many years, the symbol of Lamborghini and one of its saviors; but as I don't know none of today's managers and workers, I may be wrong. It was a sad farewell to and old friend, Simona read her moving words about her Dad with a broken voice but at the end everybody, out of the church, smiled, chatted about old Lamborghinis and the good old days....just as it had to be when Ubaldo was around.

    Greetings from Bologna,

    Stefano

P.S. for the fellow ophthalmologist: it is not too difficult to google 'Stefano Pasini-Lamborghini' and find my site and my personal e-mail.....
