Hello, have read alot on the forum about the battery tenders. Some say yes, some say no,you can fry electronics charging through the cigarette charger. Does anyone know technically the answer. I did hook up through this outlet and heard a weird high pitched sound.
If you can not use this outlet, I was going to hook the the connector that the factory charger goes into. Thanks

Anything is possible but generally* applying low (<5A) charging current through a cigarette lighter should be fine.

Question...where is this 'high pitched sound' coming from? Charger? Car? If Car, whereabouts in the car? Engine? Dash?

Re tenders...a tender is a charger which use fancy sensing/output-modifying circuits not because the batteries like them but to enhance sales appeal. Sixty years of auto battery experience has taught me owning 2 chargers is advisable as it minimizes money and time spent on batteries. Many years of engineering working with battery charging in critical (defibrillator) environments and in conjunction working with battery vendors verifies the charging approach for reliability.

A high current charger to bring back a dead battery in a hurry AND a low current CONSTANT VOLTAGE charger for maintenance. You can eliminate the high current charger if you're able to wait overnight for that every 2-3 years catastrophe.

*generally is a word which allows for exceptions. Nothing is 100% in God's world...generally.

Is the lighter energized with the ignition "off"? If it is not energized, then it will not work by that method, and you will need to connect more directly to the battery.
