Well I though it was a better April fool joke than the discovery of the Swiss Fondue seed trees or Geneva airport offering passengers electric go karts to head directly to the plane or
    reintroducing mammoths:D

Jokes aside... Is there a F1/FIA regulation that forbids 3 cars in one and the same team?

There must be because no one has entered 3 cars for decades. In the early sixties I recall Ferrari entering four cars at Spa, including an additional one for Gendebien in yellow Belgian national color. They were routinely entering 3 cars back then.

IIRC the last case was when Hector Rebaque ran a private Lotus in the late 70's. Not sure if his points counted for the constructors championship. That can easily be looked up online if you have time.

I should have translated the April fool article I mentioned in the first post; they had worked out the joke quite thoroughly, mentioning that only two cars would be allowed to score points at any given GP so as not to upset the other teams with an unfair advantage.
It stated that the selection was to be decided by the three drivers competing on the simulator ahead of each GP:D

Sainz should have made his move right after Ferrari let him go...almost simultaneously to Hulkenberg. Instead he is playing coy and he is no longer the hot ticket he was just a couple of months ago. Other teams are making their own moves and decisions...and Sainz is losing his options. Audi would have been the best move. Williams is only a little better than Haas or AM or Alpine. He needs a team that is willing to spend the money building a car to win. He also needs a team that will welcome him and not act like they are doing him a favor...aka Mercedes and RB. McLaren doesn't need him...so that leads back to Audi and unless they already have him...I think that ship sailed.
