I am really sorry to keep going on about Azzuro metallic colour, but can anyone tell
me the difference between Salchi Azzuro metallic 133-A-5 and Salchi Azzuro metallic 106-A-32?

I think the latter is a shade darker, am I right in saying the first code was used in the early vetro cars?

The bonnet in the pics is a test of the colour the paintshop matched to a bit of original colour under the VIN plate! (106-A-32)

    Close I think!! (And hope!)

If I may, you are mixing two codes of the same color.
Glidden Salchi code is 106-A-32 means EUROLAC 106-A-32 + EUROLAC 133-A-5

All metallic colors have two types of component.

Later, when the firm becomes only Salchi, the code became 633-8-005 (A mix of the two previous code).

So.... how do you feel about the color finally ?

Thanks for this reply, but I'm now more confused as I thought Salchi was the only supplier for 308's of this era. I saw the Salchi 133-A-5 on an Azzuro metallic vetro car, and my '79 steel car is Salchi 106-A-32.

I think the colour the paintshop achieved is close, but this is based on technology matching to a small patch of original paint found on the car (see pic). Also a pic of my car taken in the 80's which I think is original paint.

I've got to just accept this this the best match possible I guess!

    Many thanks for your reply...[IMG][IMG]

Waouh, it is nice to have a picture of your car in the 80s !

Concerning the code, don't be confused, the name only change but as anyway, you made the color according to an analysis, the fact that there is several component changes nothing in your color. It is just a question of name. I do not think that the formula changed over these years there or then so much little that it is impossible to see it today. There were only one manufacturer during these period for sure (until late 80) even if its name change because of a transfer of a part of the company.
In 1979, your color name is 633-8-005 but it is the same as 106-A-32.
At the risk of repeating me, the 106 part of the code which show that it is a metallic color became 633, the A (like Azzuro) became 8 and the last part is the shade.

I would love to see the glass car with the 133-A-5 label.....

I do thank you as well for the link.
This is a very nice, almost full stock car with a beautiful color.

About the code, it is rather exceptional it is true because it shows the second component of this metallic paint instead of the commercial one...

I am not a body-worker, but can be that metallic painting from that period used a tinted topcoat layer...

The only metallic paint from that period with the "133" code is the very rare version of Rosso Metallic 133-R-10. I have no explanation why they use the one or the other.

Can be that this last part of the name was included and mix later in the commercial name...

Since I'm doing research on colors, it is not the first time I notice a documented misprint. I have for example a Rosso Chiaro 20-R-180 which has never existed.....

It is very exiting (for me) because it shows the hand-made manufacturing side of the factory, sorry if it is a little bit confusing to read...

I agree, it is this inconsistency that adds so much intrigue to these cars that came out of the factory at that era! It's why we love them... Plus they are also great cars...
