So my father and I have been in the market for a Mini Cooper for over a year now. We found one at a BMW dealership. It's a red 2007 Mini Cooper S with 7740 miles. It has automatic transmission, sport package, moon roof, tachometer, mp3, etc. The window sticker said $14,888 and my dad and I knew that was a VERY VERY good deal....almost too good. Well we test drove the car and my dad told the salesman that we'd buy it. Then the salesman said "Oh wait; it seems as though the car has been mis-marked. The price is $23,000." Isn't there a law (and correct me if I'm wrong) that states that whatever price is posted, is the price you pay? If it was mis-marked don't you think they would have caught that BEFORE we test drove it?

    Thanks in advance,
    -G.B.

Sleazy but likely not illegal. Sounds like an honest (?) mistake. You'd have to have some proof
it was in intentional bait-and-switch - they will claim they put the wrong sign on the car.

It's not illegal. If you had paid a deposit or signed a document to buy it for that price, then you could say something was up and have solid case.

It sounds like a simple mistake. People are human. In fact, there was no advantage to then doing this because I'm sure you're pretty PO'd and learly about this dealership now.

Honestly, it sounds more like you're trying to screw the dealer because someone put the wrong price on a car that you already knew was "too good to be true".

Wanna know the guy who's most upset in all this? The salesman.

If the price is unappealing, walk away. Who cares about whether it's illegal or not. Whatever the asking price, buy it if you think it's a good deal. Otherwise don't.
