Just for info, I happened to see an '85 308 QV (fire damaged) being auctioned on crankyape.com. Currently the bid is at $7425, and the auction ends on Wednesday. VIN #ZFFLA13S000057561.

There's no way that Euro is totaled. Looks like the rear exhaust cover didn't get hot enough to be distorted. The door damage is all to common from auction companies moving the vehicles with front end loaders with forks, come in from the side and as they travel across the lot the car bounces enough that by the end of the ride its against the rack. Very strange damage IMHO, almost as if the muffler and diper were sprayed with regular flammable paint and ignited.Car does need alittle lovin however.

Check this out guys! We owned a body shop for over 25 years and this is some of the craziest damage I've ever seen, didn't get warm enough to even melt the rubber trim pieces between the bumper and body, seriously, as if someone sprayed the muffler with flammable paint by accident. Looks like it was fairly well taken care of before this. I think someone might get a screaming deal on a Euro QV for little money or effort. = nice driver.

Looks pretty obvious in the one picture that the fire was coming from the exhaust. No telling what kind of damage was done to the motor.

And I don't see where it was all that well taken care of before the fire. Rust in the doors, severely banged up front air dam. I wouldn't touch that car unless I got it amazingly cheap. Pushing $10K is not cheap.

A 308 will bring $10k+ without an engine. There was an accident crunched 308 that recently brought over $13k on eBay.

Having a euro style front valance that's been "customized" by parking curbs and sidewalks is not uncommon and an easy fix, also not uncommon to see rust in the lower corners of the front fenders where they meet the door, didn't see the rusty doors you mentioned. As to my comment that it "looked taken care of", the interior isn't ratty for having 83k on the odo. paint shines, no fram filter etc.

I love it when I see cars like these come to market, someone here should buy it and save it - for 12/13k , it would make an awesome project for someone handy with a wrench.

This looks like a fire starting from a dropped ignition coil. One bank of cylinders will keep the engine going while the other bank just pumps unburnt gas into the catalytic converter. I have see a car like this at Tim Stafford's in Ft Lauderdale.

If this is the case, it will not be such a bad repair.

Alright guys. I have been posting on here about wanting a 308. I am ok with the wrench. Not great, but I have been considering retiring from racing bikes at the end of the season. So this could fill my free time. This car is only 2hrs away! I feel like I should take this orphan on for the Ferrari community.

First off what is your guys take on the vin plate in the door jam?

How about cost? I will contact the local guy tomorrow that works on Ferrari for rough estimates.
    engine+tranny rebuild $8.5K
    body work and paint 10K
    What other major work?
    How much would electrical run?
I would try to do a lot of work, but I want to plan for the worst.

Wow. The adrenaline just wore off. Sounds expensive. I might have to get it and turn it into a Fiero. That would be a first. I could drop a sweet Pontiac motor in it.

If the engine turns over, who says it needs a rebuild, same with the trans.

I would look at the damage carefully and see what the cause was, possibly as previously mentioned, lost coil and dumped too much raw fuel into the cat, burned up a cat and a lot of red paint.

Then again....if you part it out, I got first dibs on your rear wheels

I couldn't see any damage in the engine bay, might need new carpet and fiberglass floor in the trunk but then again, if that caught fire you would surely see damage to the deck lid.. Which there is none, and this is a Euro, it won't have cats right? Or are they installed upon federalization?( should know this one as mine is a Euro also. Need to pay more attention.)

I still think it may be a fuel dump in the exhaust system, in which case it will be a simple fix and minor body/electrical work in the rear. After that, it is a typical unrestored 308 of that period that has been driven by likely multiple owners. I would take the drive check it out and post some pics,

The vin sticker appears to be torn about the edges and could be from previous work. Probably not a deal breaker.

Not the burn pattern and signs of oxidation. I agree with the exhaust fire theory. However, not that the trunk is not opened in any of the photos. There is likely damage there that is not showing given the heat that would have been right below.

I agree but it would have taken very little heat/fire to ignite the fiberglass trunk floor and the taillights are fine, decklid is fine and the exhaust diper isnt even warped from heat which i would surely expect. Crazy! Judging from the tail end of the car, its like the only thing that really burned was paint on the exhaust = cat fire as others have noted and not enough of that to really do much. I would think $3500 to fix all the paint issues would be on the high side.

What do you guys think this roasted 308 is worth? I was looking for previous salvaged Ferrari 308s. I found one that went for a swim during Sandy and a mondial. The mondial was pretty nice. It went for $12K, and the 308 Im not sure what the final price was. The reserve was not met but it was in the upper teens.

If your that close, maybe drive up and do an actual inspection of the car, post pics here and see what everyone thinks. Look closely for rust in other panels and see if theirs any paperwork in the car. A salvage title alone is worth $5k right off the top.

I would, but I just started a new job. If it was my old job my boss would have probably gone with me.

You guys have a keen eye. I would love to post pics of it. Maybe I can convince my dad. He only lives 30mins from Michigan city.

Sold for $9600... will either make a fun project for someone, or if the powertrain is ruined, which I doubt, a very nice parts car.

At $9600 you could afford to have the drive train rebuilt and the paint fixed and be ahead of the game by $15000
