Not sure what is beeing considered an ordinary Samuel Adams in US, but i really like the Boston Lager. A tip: Buy a couple of Winter Lager and store them for a year or two. They mature really, really nicely. Almost into a belgian style beer. Strong, sweet and with a lot of flavours you didn`t feel before. While on the subject: Any thoughts on Brooklyn Brewery?
Alexander Keith's IPA is delicious! As are beers from Propeller at Pier 21 in Halifax. Labatt blue is yummy... AND.... Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat is amazing, it tastes like blue berries.
I have never been a big fan of any sam adams (although the cherry wheat is fantastic). Some of my favorites not mentioned are Anchor Steam Carlsberg Elephant Any of the Blue Moon seasonal beers But anyone who hasn't tried anchor steam needs to do so.
MAN LAW - thou shalt not have fruit in thy beer. And if you're TestShoot, ZIMA does not count, either. I see you, Cali sissy-boy, is that a wine cooler??? Come to Boston, we have beer brewed from the mouth of the Boston Harbor! If it don't kill ya, it'll make your hair grow places puberty failed to cultivate....
Tried it once, never again. Not to mention the annoying commercials. "Always a good decision." *argh* Might be a good decision if you're already so sh1ttered you can't taste how awful it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d03yR3MbHt8
That is the most irritating ad campaign I've ever heard. I hope I never hear another one of those radio spots again.
there is one kind of beer that gives me a killer headache in the morning, every time: Sam Adams. Maybe it's just my old age? I prefer Bohemia, Asahi, Sapporo, and (don't laugh) Michelob Ultra Light....
Great thread! I am either a wuss or I have a weird palate. I can't stand anything I've ever tried from Sam Adams. It just has this sort of harsh taste when you drink it and a really bitter/gross aftertaste. Thats hops??? I have no idea, just tastes like ass. I also don't like IPA - just can't take it. I do like super light beers, they seem to not have much aftertaste... I honestly can't tell a huge difference between Coors light, Miller Light, Bud Light - they are all OK. I like Michelob Ultra as well. I think guinness is possibly the most vile concoction created. I remember having nothing but a 6-pack of it in the fridge once, and waking up so dry-mouthed that my tongue felt like cardboard. Despite that I still couldn't get a mouthful down - it's just *that* bad. So a few weeks ago I was out with a customer and he ordered "Hoegarden" or something (I was laughing - ho garden). It was actually pretty good - although it had very little fizz/carbonation to it - is that normal? I also tried Sapporo for the first time a couple weeks back and really liked it - probably my favorite beer I've had to date. I can tolerate Heineken but it always has a faint skunk smell/taste, even when very fresh (to my nose and palate anyway) So given that I like lights and enjoyed Sapporo can any of you experienced guys suggest some beers worth trying?
since you seem not to care for a hoppy beer and you like japanese beers you should try ashai super dry. very light and clean. much better than the sapporo. it's the #1 selling beer in japan. i just finished one myself. used it to chase down a couple of taco bell gorditas.
Sorry - getting back to this a bit late! Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it out! Most of the stores around here just have the same crap (miller/coors/bud/sam adams) but I will keep my eyes open
I had a sapporo for the first time a month ago and liked it as well. They (Sapporo) bought the Sleeman Brewery not too long ago around the time I had the pleasure of a tour by John Sleeman himself followed by beer tasting of course!
Try Yueng Ling. My favorite all around year beer. It has a golden pour and a nice smooth taste to it, not too strong, not too light.
Have to agree - Just got back from Brussels and the beers there are even better than the Germans. My personal favorites are the Trappest Monastary Beers - buy a beer from someone who has a reason to drink I say. Incredibly tasty (and a mite strong sometimes)
I use to like Shiner Bock. I just lost a liking for it. I did buy the Black Label this week though to give it a try. It wasn't very good. Not horrible. But as you take a sip you taste a good amount of flavor, and then it just disappears completely. I was disappointed.
I picked up some Ashai super dry....interesting taste. It's light and has very little if any "beer" taste to it (to my taste buds anyway). I'm trying to figure out if I like it but I think I like it quite a bit Sapporo has a stronger more beery flavor after the crispness of the Ashai. Thanks for the suggestion! I got a 6-pack and also this gigantic metal can that must be 2 or 3 normal beers, its huge!
sam adams utopias or chocolate bock. awesome stuff. not a fan of their "regular" beers. SRT: have you tried any Spaten stuff? Looks like you're not a fan of dark beers, so I wont reccomend the Optimator [though it IS a good beer], but they ahve some other stuff that i'm sure you'd enjoy.
yeah the big cans with the screw on top are a hoot. did yours come with the plastic clip-on handle? i like them because i drink out of a glass so i can refill at will and the beer stays cold. the yuengling is a pennsylvania beer. not very exotic but a good amber lager. it might be a good step up for you if you're looking for a bit more beer taste. is made with corn so it's a bit sweeter than an all barley beer. since you like the taste of the ashai you might try some of the belgian style white beers. maybe a warsteiner for a german hellas beer. "beer is how we know god loves us".. b franklin.
This one didn't come with a clip on handle (LOL that's pretty funny) but it was a quart of beer, so it was pretty huge. I will try that Yuengling because one thing I liked about the Sapporo and Asahi was it was a bit sweeter than some other beers. I don't like bitter beer so I'll give that a shot. I've tried Hoegartner (sp?) Belgian beer and I really liked it - although it had almost no carbonation, but that may have been the bar I tried it at. I will keep an eye out for a warsteiner - thanks for the tips!
