they have an amber, a pilsner, and a lager. cant say i've tried any of 'em though. just their dark stuff.
+1 on the utopias.... I love that stuff. Only able to get two bottles this past season. Spaten is good too. The rest of the Sam Adams Line.... I only will drink the seasonal beers... base Same Adams isn't that good. I can't recall what earwax taste like though and I sure as hell don't know what cats ass taste like. I haven't had the chocolate bock. I'm still looking for Dogfish Head 120minute IPA. No luck though.
Oberon is actually brewed along with all the others Bell's beers in Comstock MI. It's outside of Kalamazoo, and in my opinion, is is over hyped, at least around here.
Anyone enjoy a few slivers of glass with your beer? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,347728,00.html
I think Rickards white is my new favourite. No aftertaste and the beer store is having trouble keeping in stock, seems to have really taken off in my area.
Sweetwater 420, and Sweetwater Road Trip..you fellas in the Southeast will know these brews..Hard to beat and a better taste than some their well-known West-Coast rivals.
Sam Adams Lager is my favorite 'go to' beer. I love the taste and after taste. To each his own I guess. The SA summer ale and octoberfest are awesome as well.
Sam Adams beer = hurl in a bottle; I'd rather drink Lone Star or Hamm's over that. Personal fave is Shiner Bock, but I can't get it in Oregon! Boo! Deschutes Brewery's Black Butte Porter is a close 2nd in my book. Regional beers? You bet.
I'm surprised someone such as yourself surrounded by a million local breweries, and Shiner is your favorite. Shiner Bock is good, just sort of surprised.
Look here: http://www.brauerei-weihenstephan.de/index.php?page=home_2_1& The rest are only imitators, especially since it was the first brewery on earth. When I drink beer, I drink this. Smooth, clean, crisp, hoppy! Great stuff! If you can wait a long time, or have friends, then there is one with a little better flavor... http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/313/1545 But it's very scarce.
Tons of great microbreweries up here: Deschutes, Rogue, Silver Moon, and the like. The Bend Brewfest, held in August, is an excellent opportunity to experience 25+ different local (west coast) brews. After living 28 years in Dallas and then moving to TreeHugger Central, I still long for the comfort of a good Shiner. I visited my family in April, and drove two cases of Shiner Bock up to Oregon, and shared with friends. They all agreed it is an exceptional brew and virtually all stated it should be sold in the area... now if I could convince the 'powers that be' to distribute it up here, I'd be a happy camper.
When I read your other post I immediately went to their website to see if you could order from them. Unfortunatley they don't. Maybe you should send an email to them about expanding distribution. I'm sure there are a lot more people out there who feel the same way you do.
Now, as a turn of events, my folks flew up here from Dallas this last week, and I introduced my father to Oregon Microbrews. Toured the Rogue Brewery in Newport, and he had an opportunity to sample Widmer Bros, Rogue and Deschutes brews. His choices: Deschutes Black Butte and Widmer Hefeweisen.
Widmer's pretty good, and I've been a Dead Guy Ale fan since college. Did your folks at least bring you some Shiner?
I had a friend from Austin who talked for months about Shiner Bock. Finally tried it and was disappointed. It's okay but not even close to the better micro-brews. Must be one of those things, if you grow up with it, you have a taste for it. I like everything from Rogue. Sam Adams is okay. It beats Bud/Miller/Coors/Michelob aka piss.
I feel the same. It's decent at best, imo. I liked Shiner Bock quite a bit until I drank a couple of six packs in college. After that, I wasn't feeling it.
