I'm going to be in Santa Cruz for a week in September.......the 10 - 17th. I've never been there. My days will be busy, but the evenings I'll be free. Can anyone recommend some cool places to go, things to see......any F car drives going on. Is Half moon Bay nice? I've heard I should drive over there one evening? Is it far?

    Thanks

F-car drives.....In Santa Cruz? BBBBWWWAAAAHHHH!!! Dude, The people there are a bunch of tree huggers and granola eaters.

Half moon bay is nice but the Monterey Bay Aquarium is closer and better.

Lived in Aptos for a year while I worked in Santa Cruz. I had just had my first child, so didn't have a lot of free time. There are a couple of good local restaraunts for lunch, the Buttery (on the main road, SE of town) has great sandwiches and deserts, and Tacos Morenos on Water St. has my favortie carnitas burrito in the whole world. If you have some daytime free, call Canepa Design, which just moved to Scotts Valley (5 mins away). They have a car collection worth drooling over, and are always working on some cool stuff. Check their website at www.canepa.com.

Other than those, rent a nice car and go driving. Highway 17 from Santa Cruz to Los Gatos is dangerous, but fun, and Los Gatos has a nice main street with some neat shops and places to eat. If you have the time, it's not too far to drive down to Monterey/Carmel for dinner. If you're up for a little drive, just past Carmel on Highway 1, on the coast side, is a restaraunt called Nepenthe. It has some neat history and a good burger, and the view is remarkable.

Nothing else jumps out at me right now, but feel free to pm/e-mail me if you have any questions.

Do not, and I repeat do NOT miss a dinner at the Shadowbrook Restaurant, which is in Capitola, next to Santa Cruz. See http://www.shadowbrook-capitola.com.

If you really want to see trolls, visit downtown Santa Cruz and night of the week!

So tree huggers and granola's don't own Ferrari's?
Go to Monterey and Carmel for some car watching. I've never been disappointed.
Screw Nepenthe, go a mile further to the Dijon Inn for some real food. The atmosphere is unforgettable.

The tree hugging granola's in Monterey and Carmel are less tree huggy and less granolaie then the tree hugging granolas in Santa Cruz.

    Agree about Shadow Brook.

As well, there is the Boardwalk which can make for some intresting people watching at night.

The drive up to Half Moon Bay is a straight shot up Highway One about 35 minutes. The Ritz Carlton and the Moss Beach Distillery is another cool place to watch the California Sun set.

Other then that, go downtown and people watch.

Oh, great Pub downtown 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. If you are a beer fan, you will find some cool off the wall beers there.

    :)

Go to Santana Row in san jose in the eve if you want to people watch. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Check out the cars infront of Blow Fish and hotel. Los Gatos is okay but quiet at night, but if you're there, have sushi in Sushi On The Run (hole in the wall seats 8).

Carmel is definitely worth visiting. Check out the fine white sand on Carmel Beach.

It's wonderful....and getting nicer all the time!! When they see you in a Ferrari, the revenue they generate from the BS ticket you receive will provide them with a new bus bench outside city hall!

    Isn't that nice??????

I lived in LG. Fun town at night, it ain't a sleepy place! If you go there, drop into the Black Watch for a Kamakazi served up in a pint glass! It's LG's only hole-in-the-wall bar.

Yeah. the shadowbrook was good. DO NOT HAND OUT CHANGE TO THE LOSERS! Most shops are overpriced. Go see the beach and watch people surf. Go to the boardwalk too. I love that arcade.

Yeah, it's better for the locals than for visitors who don't know anyone. The streets are quiet, until you step inside the watering holes :)

Ya, go to Pleasure Point at the end of 41st street and watch all the surfer's beat the hell out of each other. I quit surfing eight years ago because the crowd was turning into a bunch of pompus phuking dirtbag-punk-pieces of **** eating jerks!

I'm not so sure about that Matteo. I live amoungst the bunnyhuggers around here, and it's not cool. Although, Santa Cruz is full of environmentalists wacko nutjobs.

On most new construction job sites in Monterey County, you can't even pee within the drip line of any existing Oak tree without these 1960's leftover hippies getting pissed (on/off?)!

Speaking of leftover hippies, try driving up Palo Colorado Cyn.(off hwy.1) some time. Talk about climbing into a time machine. Whew!!!

The Rocky Point restaurant down the coast is a great place to eat and watch the things the Treeluvers watch (sea otters, kelp beds grow, whales, fog, and other assorted environmental stuff.
