Given the decline of the Spanish economy I'm starting to wonder whether Santander can continue to sponsor Ferrari with millions of $?

While they might have the $ financially, aren't they getting under increasing public pressure to "waste" their $ on F1? Will we see signs of protests in Barcelona?

And if Santander really steps out of F1, who will pay Alonso's salary? Is Marlboro going to jump in?

And if suddenly such a big chunk of $ is missing from Ferrari's budget, can they afford to loose further $$$ in WCC money with a #2 driver who barely contributes?

Wouldn't that be a scenario where a young and up and coming driver would nicely fit in, particularly if he brings millions of $ along? Somebody like Perez?

Couldn't catch enough shut-eye last night, so all of these ? went through my head.

Absolutely yes. The guy in the street is in crisis. The banks, NOT!!!

NOPE!!! Maybe a few hippies will rant on the internet. And that´s all.

Lung cancer business is going strong. I wouldn´t worry.

For those long nights, I´d suggest to watch porn. It´s better than this crap.

You know, we have a saying here that is basicly like this.
" From Spain it never comes good wind nor good marriage"..of course in Portuguese it sounds better because it rhimes " De Espanha nunca vem bom vento nem bom casamento".
All this to state that from the time santander steped into ferrari, they never did anything decent again!! So, i won´t be the least bodered if they leave...and perhaps take Stefeno with them, to be work at some bank, selling promisses of good investements!!!
Also i think santander is doing pretty well, they shouldn´t be without money anytime soon...as for Ferrari, they never had problems with sponsors, if Botin goes, they will simply find someone else to pay the bills.

They made 1.6B euro's this quarter. The payments to Ferrari are not that much overall. Profits are down of course, but the F1 deal is not that expensive, but certainly any expense can be minimized.

Santander has been downgraded two notches (from A+ to A-) this morning by S&P, as most spanish banks. Perhaps we are not too far from a rethinking of their sponsorship strategy?

Between the downward trend in the European economy, the new Concorde and the F1stock float there are changes coming.
