I've used several... My first comment is that the guy in that video has done that setup a few times before and probably in that exact location. We was mighty quick. They are light years ahead of old systems as far as aiming but you're still trying to hit a dot the size of a grapefruit that's 22,200 miles away. (Hint, make sure it is on a very solid surface free of vibration)

If you rent or buy one, practice setting it up in several different locations before you bring it in the field. Note also the video says the -setup- was in real time. The video conferencing I've done has about a 2 second delay. My experience is that those links have a ton of latency but perhaps they are better now. (Although we were told that was the time for the signal to travel 44,000 miles so I'm not sure how they could speed that up.) Anyway, I'm not sure they are not fudging the video conferencing part.

Also contra the instructions, I plug in all the cables BEFORE acquiring a sat signal. Nothing is worse than getting a marginal signal locked in then having to disturb the unit to plug in a wire. You'll only have to do that once before you decide my way is better. ;-)

BTW where exactly is this adventure ride?

Thanks for the feedback, the Iridium phone has a data connect but I've never used it, and I have never tried this system.

Were not going anywhere too exotic, leaving So Cal heading up to Vancover, then British Columbia, North to Dawson, then taking the Top of the World Highway to Fairbanks, Fairbanks up the the Arctic Circle, then down to Anchorage, over to Valdez, then to Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Prince George, Whistler then head home.

The destinations can change based upon weather, or the just which way we feel like going.

Last time we went to the Arctic to Inuvik via the Dempster (well, there isn't any other way), which was great until the weather changed, then not so great.
