ok folks, there's a big race weekend coming up on Saturday, October 16, at Laguna Seca. I want to do it in style, well at least a little bit of style. It's the Le Mans Series and the racing will continue until 8pm at night. So, how about a big barbecue for the f-chatters? Actually, two barbecues, one for lunch, and one for dinner. With drinks, refreshments, perhaps coffee and icecream in between.

I am willing to coordinate most of it, as long as I get some help. Here's what I think we will need:

Coordination with track officials (I can do this)
Food purchasing (I can do most of this)

Arranging for a couple of picnic tables (I can get these from work)
Large canopy rental (Need help with this)
Trailer rental (I can do this, my car has a trailer hitch)

Picnic area setup (Will need help)
Set up big-a$s tent so we have shade (Need help with this)
Spot reservation (will need someone to go there early and stake out our spot)

Food cooking (Need help with this--I am also looking into caterers)
Packing up at the end (Need help)

Few other minor details (will need help)

A few people to rotate tent/bbq duty--probably 1.5 hour shifts (will need help)

As long as the space is free (unlike RV spaces), I figure it will cost about $30 per person. With this kind of budget, I don't think alcohol is possible. But then, we are driving back in the evening, so perhaps that's not a bad thing. Event tickets are also $30 per person at this time. They will be $45 at the gate.

So, at this stage, I need the following:

    Indication of interest
Volunteering for some of the above items
Stuff I have overlooked - nothing is too minor
    Suggestions

Let me know - I think it's gonna be great either way, but I have always wished for a place to park my butt, hang out with friends, get some shade and refreshments, and not have to pay $500-$1000 for one of the hospitality suites.

I might be in Chicago that weekend, but I might be able to return on saturday. If I'm in town, then I'm definitely interested.

Addendum: The laguna seca website seems to indicate the race will be on sunday the 17th. Or did I misread it?

I'll help if I'm not in trial in LA. Should be free though. I can help with the tent, etc., or attendance. Any thoughts about getting a hotel there also?

    Norman,

The AMLs race is on Sat afternoon. There is more racing on Sunday, but the highlight of the weekend is supposed to be the Sat "night" event.

F- you know my stance on this. Help is here....

Man, I loved LS so much, I almost thought about coming back just for this.

What spots are the best for viewing?

That Thursday for the Challenge race I went up and crossed that bridge and climbed the hill other side of T9. That was the best viewing I personally found all weekend. You could see corkscrew through T10 and then the straight through T4. There are camping spots up there, but I'm sure those are some of the most sought after.

Sounds like a grea tidea, I'm gonna talk to the wife and see what we can do.
Although, my wife lost her job so I'm hoping she finds one before the race so we can afford to go. Does anyone need a bookeeper with 4 years experience?
    Just thought I would ask.

    Thanks guys
