That's the word on the street. Apparently Kaltenborn did an interview with RTL and said things are pretty tough at the moment.

Good chance for Ferrari to swoop Hulkenburg.

I sure hope they can turn things around especially after such a strong (best ever?) year last year. I've always been a fan of them since they run Ferrari power.

I don't like to see anyone pull out, but understanding the amount of cash needed to keep going in F1 is mind boggling to say the least.

We endure all these cockamamie cost reduction measures and this still happens?

I find it weird considering Sauber is coming off on of their best years ever and they still have $$$$ coming in from Gutierrez.

If a team in Sauber's position is having money trouble is there much hope for any of the small to mid size teams?

I think Sauber would already claim to be a mid size team at best.

They really haven't had a major sponsor on the thing for a couple of years now. Hopefully they'll either find one or Peter's pockets remain deep. I like the team and wish them well; Even Monisha's kinda cute in a geeky/techy kinda way! [Don't tell the G/F! ;)]

Talking of monster sponsorship deals, wasn't Coke meant to be coming in sometime "soon"?

    Cheers,
    Ian

My point is that if Sauber, the biggest and oldest, of the second/third tier teams is at risk what hope is there for the rest?

As to monisha, I still don't know if GFs are more threatened by ones attraction to the beautiful, but unobtainable, types or those closer to what might actually exist in our worlds.

Understood. I think it was sir Frank that said recently (as they celebrated their 600th start) that something like 60-70 (?) teams have come & gone since he's been doing it. It ain't, nor should it be, easy.......

    :)

Fer sure, the appeal to me is she's "da woman" there! Certainly not the classic pit-babe by any means, but I guess power "appeals" to me! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

 Oh no!..... :D [Edit; Steve will never talk to me again! :)]

Guess I should have said "power in this context" rather than just "power". ;)

If that is the case, they you should look at Claire Williams... Getting there in the power
status and let's say, easier on the eyes...

Having grown up 10 minutes from Sauber's HQ it was only normal for me to be a Sauber fan. Once they run on Ferrari power, the deal was sealed.

Keeping my fingers crossed for them.

Hulkenberg: Sauber money problems "a difficult situation" - F1 Fanatic

Nico Hulkenberg admits Sauber’s financial problems are “a difficult situation” for the team.

Reports claim Sauber has been struggling to pay its bills and has stopped development of its C32 chassis.

The team’s chief designer Matt Morris recently left to join McLaren as engineering director.

During the press conference ahead of this weekend’s German Grand Prix Hulkenberg said: “I think it’s a difficult situation, like [team principal] Monisha [Kaltenborn] has told the press yesterday.”

Hulkenberg, who joined the team from Force India this year, added: “I think she and the team and the management is working on a solution and trying to work a way out of it, to get better things.”

“She’s assured me that she’s busy working on that and there’s not much more I can say other than that.”

The Sauber team was owned by BMW from 2006 to 2009 before it was sold back to founder Peter Sauber.

Sauber is really in deep trouble as they no longer pay their bills and the creditors are now getting really upset.

Handelszeitung enthüllt: Gläubiger betreiben Sauber ? kommt bald das Ende? ? Formel 1 ? Blick

OTOH Sauber is trying to get a sponsor in Russia:
Die Sauber-Krise: Ist das der russische Rettungsengel? ? Formel 1 ? Blick

By the end of this month they will know more: Either they get the sponsor or the team closes its doors. Hungary could be their last GP, if it already wasn't in Germany. :(

That would be a real shame. The utterly non competitive teams carry on but Sauber can't find money.

Isn't there a certain number of F1 teams that if we get down to 17 or so that they'd each be allowed to run 3 cars each? Has that ever happened?
