Are the Yemenis getting their fireworks display in order?

 

Gave us a great battle last year. A good race this one!

 

Some say Ben Sulayem's son had just died in a car accident.

All good news lately.

 

Is that a typo?

 

Bitter irony.

I have nothing against Sulayem (yet), much less against his son.

 

Very sad and just before Ramadan begins this year.

 

When a father loses a son, so many dreams also die. I don't know anything about either of them, but as someone who has enjoyed a long life (relatively), I feel a sadness for the young man who will miss so much.

 

Could be a bang up time !!

This is the only track that actually makes me nervous. There's a couple totally blind high speed corners that I'm afraid are just ripe for something bad to happen. I know they did some work, but it'll be interesting to see if it makes a difference.

 

Certainly the drivers will tell us during Prac 1!

Yeah... I think more likely during qually or practice when different cars are doing different things. It's narrow.. blind... and it's hard to be in the right spot if you're doing slow lap. I'm always worried that someone's blitzing around corner only to find a turtle making their way around. There were some close calls for sure already last year.

No more DRS braking game in 2023: Detection zone now after Turn 27

The third DRS detection zone at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit of the Saudi Arabia GP has been moved and is now after the last corner. In 2022, the detection was still around the corner and that made for a remarkable F1 moment. So we won't see such a moment again this weekend.

F1 tries to reduce DRS
Formula 1 is experimenting with reducing the DRS effect this year. Cars have been able to track better since 2022 because the new concept of F1 cars means less disturbed air remains behind the car. As this has made following and overtaking a competitor easier, the DRS effect also seems to have become stronger.


To reduce the DRS effect, some zones will be removed or simply shortened. But a more significant intervention has taken place in Saudi Arabia. The detection zone of the last DRS moment has been moved until after the last corner. In 2022, that detection was still before the last corner in the braking point, which made for a remarkable moment.

A track without one or two dangerous corners just isn't racing. Otherwise just put the car on autopilot and let the pit wall drive it around the track.
