yeah, they are very cool cats. they are just as friendly, but are completely different in behavior. i ended up with a bengal and a pixie-bob. the bengal is the domestic version of the asian leapord, and the pixie-bob a bob cat. they have great character and are very exotic. the pixie-bobs are very muscular, polydactyl, have no tail, and have ear tusks. they also like to playfetchand like to play in water.

Well he's not a total terror, he's cuddly and sweet, but he'll also let you know that he can kick your ass every once in a while. Theyre the beer drinkin beef jerky eatin lumberjack pirates of the cat world. His paws are huge, and sometimes it's surprising how hard he can hit. I take him out back to the porch light and hold him up so he can grab moths and eat em. He meows at the door all night so I will hold him up to eat bugs. Also our house literally insect free indoors, because he'll tell us if theres a spider on the ceiling. I guess since Maine coons are such good mousers this just satisfies his instincts.

I love cats and want to get one but am allergic to them. What happens to me is my eyes get red and start to tear and itch. I have taken allergy shots for 3 years that was supposed to solve it but didn't.

Have any of you tried anything that has worked for you for cat allergies?

I am thinking of getting a sphinx (spelling?) cat since they are hairless.

I had allergy shots too, but they didn't doo too much. I got used to cats, and they can make my throat scratchy if theyre all dirty, or theres cat pee everywhere. If you get a cat, get a short haired one. I give my cat baths, because he likes the water. This keeps the dander down. Dogs that have a greasy coat make my allergies crazy. I pet the dog and get this grease coat on my hand and I'm like "dude, wash your dirty stinkin dog please".

My dogs dont bother me at all just a cat thing. I thought it was a bit funny I posted that last night and today there were two cats on my back porch eating my dog's food. One was really friendly and I played with it for a while; the other one got scared and ran away. After playing with the cat for a few minutes I started to have a slight reaction to it.

One of the breeders lives not far, and i have seen her big boy at shows. To me, the cat looks strange in its proportions, and i am never sure what's up with all the cross-breeding to accomplish a particular look.
We also researched Bengals and they were amazing, but unfortunately, the ones i liked best were too close to feral to be any good as house pets-
We have a pair of Eyptian Maus, they are delightful- naturally spotted, very smart, and very playful/loving. Also, a pretty well established breed...

I know this will only confirm my reputation as a freak, but does anyone here own or have extensive experience with Savannah Cats? Feel free to pipe up if you own a chausie or any other exotic cat hybrid breed. I am an otherwise sane cat and dog lover and owner who has become fixated on savannah cats.
How tame and reasonable are they? Do they coexist well with your other critters? Do you have a F1, F2, etc.? Which breeders, if any, are reputable?
    HESSIAN

PS My wife is a vegetarian enviro who works with wild critters and indulgently suppresses her otherwise stern disapproval of this sort of hybrid breeding when I pine for a savannah. If you feel that breeding exotic hybrids is a morally unacceptable persuit, give me a logically reasoned argument rather than ad hominem attacks.

There is a famous Savannah cat breeder around these parts. We looked at them, at Bengals (I liked the big ones that were close to feral, but they are not 'legal' in alot of States as a pet, only for breeding) and Egyptian Maus. We bought the Maus, and they are cool, cool, cool, smart, funny, very loyal. Not as large as the Savannah,or a big Bengal, but sweet disposition, naturally spotted breed without some of the issues that come with all the genetic crossing stuff. Highly recommended.

I'd never heard of a “savannah cat” before so did a quick search. Look like ocelots a bit. I like a big cat & have a 17 pounder “Redman”. How bad can a savannah cat be? Most cats seem to be about one twitch away from primal anyway. You know, that thing they all instinctively do when they see a bird: “ak, ak, ak”. Are these cat really distant & non affectionate or what?

Meet Cleo. 19# of sweet-to-a-point Maine Coon. Regularly beat up every neighborhood dog in her younger days. 85# Lab still gives her a wide berth. Great with our 15mo and our 4yo, but as photo shows, don't push your luck.
