I'm in town visiting my parents for the week. Any chance that anyone will have something interesting out that I might catch a glimpse of around town? I'm from Chicago and I'm in serious remission car-wise.

I'll be in the Diablo downtown Sunday evening. Look for a yellow beast.

Give us an example of some of the "serious cars" you're referring to. The scenery in Savannah is picture perfect for super cars but I haven't really seen much when I'm in the area except for a few 308s and the occasional viper.

this is just one thread with pics of some of the cars we have here. search for the name of the driving club, and check out the "Spent the day with a Countach" thread in the Lambo section.

speaking of Vipers. i got a ride in a twin turbo Viper yesterday with 1600 HP with the boost turned down.

the car is nuts ! but not my cup of tea. ( i'm a wimp)

Anything in that upper echelon of motoring really. Porsches are pretty common place, so I've been on the look-out mostly for non-German sports cars (Ferraris, Lambos, Astons, etc.).

Very cool. Is that a recreation of a Rothmans Rally Porsche or one of the original?

You are 100% correct, Savannah has a handfull of everyday Porsches and absolutely no exotics except my Lambo and another Countach, the rest is a bunch of $20K cars. I have to drive my Diablo to Florida to see true exotics, of course Atlanta is a mecca for supercars compared to Savannah, but then again, this is a city for tourists.

you really need to come to one of our events, and call Joe up.

there are plenty of rare cars here, but you need to know the people and where the cars are kept. we also avoid downtown , and the south and west sides of town.

you are a brave guy to be downtown with that car. its not safe anymore. i have lived here since 1979, you have not.

You need to get out more. I have been here 2 years, and I am still in disbelief. Come visit Atlanta just for one of our events, your "society" club is too exclusive and uninviting, I declined an offer to join for personal reasons, and not just because of the lack of cars. Joe is a real nice guy, and as car dealer I am sure he has nice ones.
Downtown is the safest place to be these days, mainly because of the influx of tourists/security. I wouldn't park my Diablo anywhere else in Chatham, Pooler, or islands area.
All car enthusiats I have met so far were downtown, and like me, they all share the same opinion of Savannah, including a buddy that used to live here, moved to Jax with his Gallardo, there is simply no activity here at all. It's a shame because the downtown area would make a nice backdrop for big shows like Amelia Island and Hilton Head. If I wasn't moving soon, I would have pulled the trigger already to get something started.

An inlaw has taken a 1yr contract engineering job in Savannah, working near airport (Gulfstream? He's in aerospace). Family is staying in DFW at least through June until school's out. Arriving in Savannah this week and looking for a small furnished rental. Currently looking around Craigslist etc.

    Which are the best suburbs?

It depends on his budget. I only know about prices in historic and the beaches, and rentals are not that cheap for a nice clean place. Craiglist should help, but anything under $1000 a month will be a dump in my opinion.

No, I sold that one as it had a black interior, I really wanted one with a light interior, and this one is perfect for me.

Wow, I stand corrected!!!. I am starting to see some nice rides in the area, although not Ferrari a GTO, but a couple of modern Lambos and some serious vintage cars, Savannah isn't as dry as I thought after all. I'll have to add another Ferrari to my stable, the Diablo is getting lonely ;)

Really? It's that pricey even for a 1bdrm place?

like i said, we have some freaking amazing, significant car guys in out group. some are not paying members of our "club" but still hang out with us on weekends. one particular members house is a " see all - free for all " almost every Sunday, as we are there messing around and tinkering.

    .

edit... i detest Atlanta, and big cities, point taken,

but no thank you. i am from Los Angeles, and fully intend to buy a bunch of acres of my own in the country and get away from all the damn people.

you can have the city life, and the crime.

    stay safe out there.

This thread was about cars in Savannah, geographic crime is another subject altogether. Good luck with your farm and acres. ;)
