Suggest some cautious testing if the front end will be generating d/f with not much happening at the rear. Drove one of BMW's 1series race cars in europe where they took the rear wing off but left the front aero bits on to get it into Prod class, at over 120mph it was undrivable.
Can you repost these changes? I went back through this thread but you have lots of posts and I couldn't figure out what setup was the final one that worked. Thanks!
Yep, hence why I said "try" hehe. I have a carbon wing and accompanying carbon decklid in the garage just in case (i cringed at the idea of drilling holes into the original one). Has anyone tried adding the GT3-style rear diffuser to their scuderias? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Has anyone checked the F430 challenge market? A true alternative to a "Scud primarily used on the race tracks"...
Dave- I will post the current alignment & wheel specs, need to measure the back spacing on the Forgelines, they increased front track width buy close to 1". That generally helps turn in and reduces understeer, so my bet is the wheel and additional camber and caster is what did the trick. The car is devastating on track, very enjoyable, not much out there can keep pace. NJMP - Lightening - 1:09 my personal best time and she had more in her, ran out of pads and overheated the brake fluid, I believe 1:08 - 1:07 is possible. Those Michelins are awesome but will not last very long vs the Pzero DH's. Will go back to the Perrelli 458 CH sizes next. At this point I don't see many more changes coming, I think this winter I will put the street car bits back on, do a full repaint, put her on the street for a while. I am working on a new project...Ultimate budget Ferrari track only car... 2400# 600hp 450ftlbs coming soon.
Dave, This is my solution: Car lowered significantly - didn't measure exactly but too low for the street, and corner balanced very close - look in post. Increase wheel sizes: FORGELINE GA1R - very light - forgot to measure 9"x19 F 11x19 R Increase Spring rate w adjustable coilovers: Penske Racing 1200#F 1600#R Alignment: Front: Camber -2.77deg Caster: 7.33 deg Toe: -1mm Rear: Camber: -3.03deg Toe: -2.1 Thrust Angle: 0.0 Michelin S8 slicks F 24/65-19 R 29/67-19
And for ppl considering this aggressive setup, bear in mind, on the street, the steering will get "livelier" e.g. little bumps or curves will pull at you more dramatically.
Just watched this video, I was curious due to the Cayman GTS. Is that you rmarchjr with the Scuderia at 6.32? What a nice sound! (I have no idea which race track it is...) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms56SEjk2QY[/ame]
dave- the michelins I just used up were 240mm & 290mm but in medium compound, the pzero slicks I will use next are hard and 255mm-F 305mm-R redcaruser, Yes, that's me before the last round of changes, I corded the front 235mm Pzero DH slicks the next day. I love the way the car sounds in that form, she just sings but was plowing through most of the corners. The slicks were at 15 cycles and corded at 18 due to insufficient camber and caster. She's got 1" wider rims and 458 sized slicks now, also realigned to the specs listed above. The car (and me)got significantly faster through the corners. That was a very well driven cayman in the video! just back from pocono with the same group, unfortunately I destroyed the rear splitter/undertray from an unmarked drainage grate on track. It was about a 3" drop into it and the rear scraped and cracked it, looked ok but got black flagged 3 sessions later when it dropped down off the rear fender. Not much left if it now. I suppose that's the cost of doing business at pocono. The storm drain was off line but should have been marked with cones as it was within track boundaries. Very happy with the current setup, but may raise the car 10mm or so.
Very interesting to read your experiences, thank you rmarchjr! Yes, it seems the Caymen driver is a very talented one, however, you were already away very quickly. I'm curious how it will end with the broken splitter/undertray, not a pleasant thing.
Red car-You and me both, I am removing parts now to check EVERYTHING- wheel bearings, suspension arms, the rims, just want to be sure it was only some broken CF parts. I use one of our sponsors and a great guy - Glen from ExoticCarGear.com - he has the Scud diffuser in stock - looks identical to the OEM part at a huge discount vs the factory piece. It's nice to deal w a vendor who actually stocks parts so when a booboo happens the fix doesn't take months.
Okay, thanks. Do you know for certain the 255s will fit in the front without modifying the fenders? I'm going to keep the stock fenders, suspension, and wheels but would like to go with greater camber and 245s or even 255s if they work on the stock wheels.
We'll know next week, but the tread width and section width vary considerable from each mfg. Also my wheels are 9" front, stock is 8", most 255 require 9". Michelin considers the 24/65 same as perelli 255/650 slick, so a lot depends on the actual tire. Even if they fit I wouldnt say 255's fit, Id say the pzero 255 slick fits with 2.7deg - camber. Its very tight.
The clearance using the 458 Pzero slicks 255 front and 305's rear is very tight. I do not think it would clear with street camber settings. I also had my rear fender lips rolled when I did the repair bodywork, and I still needed to clearance and adjust the rear bumpers slightly. It looks like it will work but I have that very stiff suspension limiting movement. I'm off to Watkins Glen today so I will be sure in a day or so. I would say most people will NOT want to run these sizes on the street, pics coming...
The tires work fine, no rubbing detected but I've been staying off the curbs so far, 2:05 @ glen so far.
