I stumbled on a mint 86 328 fly yellow ,brown interior. Paint, wheels tires flawless, 35,000 miles, kept in heated garage, only brought out for shows once or twice a year. Seat, minor bolster wear, engine not detailed .30k done. Asking 50K is it worth that much? Thanks Mike

If it has full records and with the 30k service it's probably a fair price for one who has to have it in yellow ;)

But seriously, if it needs nothing I still think it's a bit high for an off color car.

Yellow is a extremely rare color on the 328s. If it's really that clean and has good records, 50 is fair IMHO -- but you're paying a major premium for the color. That's red 89 territory on the price.

Beware, there's a yellow 328 out there that has new leather and is repainted from white for unknown reasons. For that one I would definitely not pay anywhere near market price.

There's certainly wear on the bolster. The car has 35K miles, so it didn't spend all its time in the garage.

But if it's been a garage queen for the last few years, keep in mind that these cars like to run. A budget (just to sell it) "30K" service isn't going to clear all the bugs out. Keep a reserve for service -- there *will* be things going wrong on a 20 year old car that's been left sitting.

How old are the tires? If more than four or five years, they may need replacing regardless of tread wear -- the compounds get hard over time.

But in the photos, that combination isn't as ugly as I thought yellow/brown would be. ;)

$50K isn't way out of line, but yellow over brown isn't one of the big resale color combinations (red/tan and black/tan are usually preferred.) You have to like it.

The leather in the photo looks ok, but "mint" is a tad generous, IMO. The steering wheel is scraped up, the antenna is stuck in the up position, and the interior bolster on the driver's seat shows wear -- that part usually stays near perfect.

If you don't mind another opinion the car is way too overpriced. Have you seen the car? Look it over real well. Make sure there are no signs of any paintwork. If you spend 50 you don't want a repaint. Look at the pedals and real close at the interior. Make sure that the miles weren't disconnected. It is easy to do in these cars. Make sure that the wear is in line with miles. It looks to me from a distance that is not the case. Ask to see service records. Make sure they are extensive. If you are going to spend 50 that is not cheap. Don't get emotional. They are probably telling you that everyone is looking seriously at the car. I don't believe it. Make sure you get your moneys worth. SPend the money on a post sale inspection.

50 for a 328 is not unusual coming from a highline dealership. The car should be absolutely mint or don't buy it. Color is important. Yellow/brown is an off color. The dealer selling shouldn't be selling any beaters or doing buy here pay here. If that is the case it may have been sold to them through a used car wholesaler. Somebody may have been trying to dump it. If you are going to spend the big bucks make sure that the dealer can back it up. Preferable to buy a car from the original selling dealer for that much. Very little wear all the records. DOn't get clipped. Your 50 may turn into 60 after the first visit to your mechanic.

I personally wouldn't touch that car for more than 42k. Hope the advice helps. Eddie

That is where the hood strut attaches. On the 86 models you had a button to push on the strut to lower the hood. It looks like someone tried to close the hood without releasing the catch and bent it.

Extremely common, but I agree, that's what happened. You want to check the back bracing to see if it was severely forced or just a light bend.

It's a dealer, so no, can't hurt. I doubt you'll get the car, though.

How many 328s have you looked at so far (to get a price/condition benchmark)?

Tha value all depends on whether you desire a yellow car. Sure, the price is too high for an off-color car -- but yellow is different. Yellow's a really rare off-color, and higly desireable for certain buyers. If you're one of those buyers, it's not overpriced. If you just want "a 328" instead of "a yellow 328", then keep looking.

I'd deduct $2k for the bent bonnet....and another $6k for the Ferrari sticker on the windscreen. Cripes, if you're gonna put a sticker up there, put one that says Mustang on - at least that way you'll have a whole lot of fun confusing people :)

I think yellow over brown '86 328 GTS models are worth well upwards of $50K. You should offer $55K to make sure you get it.

When you do, please report the sale to the Ferrari Market Letter.

If you have no idea why I'm writing this, please check my profile.

I think yellow with black interior would be the best for a yellow car. For $50k there are lots of nice 328's here on Ferrariads. Make sure you check out at least a half dozen cars before settling on one. - It took me about 8 months of daily searching to find a nice one.

    Well said.

The bonnet's aluminum - all of them were bent at some point and unless the bracing was damaged they're repairable.

I would start the negotiations at $35K. Would be interested to know if Algar ever serviced the car, if so with the VIN they can tell you if it was properly maintained, or not.

The interior is in sad shape. And the interior color....this car won't sell so fast.
Yellow's are fine, with black interior. Offer $43,000. Or should I say do not exceed $43,000.00
