Saw one a few weeks ago for the first time as well. Black on black...it was right on my tail weaving through traffic and I couldn't tell until it passed me that it was an M5. Very sleeper. I love the look. Reminds me of the E39 a lot and looks very BMW. The E60 M5 didn't make me feel the same way and still doesn't look much like a BMW imo. I hear there may be a 2014 facelift on the F10 BMWs...hopefully they don't change it much as it looks very nice as-is. The 3, 5, and 7 series are all starting to look very similar other than size, which is what I like. Reminds me of the 90s with the E36, E39, E38...all of which I love. It wasn't until the generations after that that none of them looked very related. Keep it up BMW.
No, TT V8. About the only thing that is arguably worse on the new one, but the V10 never stood a chance against the PC police. Same with the M3's V8.
I dunno. However first came up with the V8 had no idea what he was doing. It is a torque monster, which makes driving fun. I gotta say. The car sounded and looked mean. Dale
iT WAS OKAY. I bought an M3 instead. It is more of a flicable sports car while the M5 is a very fast cruiser. The car I just bought that I cannot stop driving is the Audi R8 V10. Just a stunning car to look at and drive. They call it a supercar. I personally think that is a little over the top. Not enough power to be a supercar. Still a great car tho. Lee
I think they get more performance and lower weight out of the V8. I like the new 5's -- very elegant car, just felt kind of big to me when I visited the dealer for a look/drive. The planned 4 series coupe looks like the natural competitor to the Audi A5/S5, so if I get back into a BMW it might be one of those.
I don't mind the V8, but the sound of that V10 was special. Having said that I rather prefer the F10 5 series than the E60. The F10 definitely feels less bloated than the previous generation. A lot tighter as a package.
I've owned an e34, e39 and e60 M5 and IMHO, BMW should go back to its wonderful I6 in its Mcars and leave the Vs to AMG
I liked the V10 engine, it had monster power and gobs of torque, I haven't driven a new BMW with the new TTV8, but I expect it will be similar. I don't see them going back to an inline 6 unless it's TT'd, maybe on the 1 series or whatever they changed it to. I don't want to call the 3 series a 4 series. Geez, what's with manufactures coming up with stupid names.
BMW just released a 6-speed tranny for the new M5 and it is actually a few tenths slower than the auto. Also the M4 that will be replacing the current V8 M3 is reverting back to the TT I6 with an estimated 420hp, that makes me very happy.
BMW's I6 is one of the greatest engines ever. I agree that the new M3 will probably be awesome... (Can't call it an M4, yet..)
Why tt? I prefer a normally aspirated straight-6...the old E46 M3 was a street legal race car, perfectly fine without any boost. Agreed - the 3-series is already a recognized platform, why change?
I guess the problem is to get 560 hp out of an naturally aspirated inline 6. But they could combine two N52 B30 engines instead: File:BMW 6-cylinder block Al-Mg.jpg - Wikimedia Commons => M5 V12 6.0l
Then there is a new E63 S 4-matic coming this Summer with MB official 3.5s 0-60,mid 11 1/4 mile with 126mph trap speed. A family sedan..... Easy mod from Renntech and 1/4 mile drops into 10s,same engine in my CLS (daily d.)has 580 whp with just ECU and intercooler changed.
I have a feeling the M5 would handle better than a larger sedan like the S8. I don't think the S8 comes with a manual option either. The performance of cars nowadays is getting pretty ridiculous. Even the GTR does 0-60 in 2.7s. lol
I'm a BMW guy, and I cannot believe the new 4Matic E63 AMG. Ridiculous doesn't even begin to describe it. The M department must be scratching their heads.
