the slight "refresh" does seem to make it look a little better than the older version.

55? what about the 63? when is that dropping?

the sl is and always will be a tasteful car, not over-the-top, but certainly not an exotic.

edit: upon second look, it doesnt look any different, just rims essentially

IMO the SL is one of the most beautiful car desings, I love them. That 07 is nice as hell, I also wonder if they are going 63 are they? SL65 is an animal I would take out the 600 before the 65!

Understand the following are new for the SL b/w MY06 and MY07:

    - Wheels
    - Exterior tweaks
    - BlueTooth standard
    - HP increased from 493 to 510 (DAMN, that's more than my Gallardo!)
    - Paddle shifting

    Anything else?

Not only is the HP more but the Torque is insane by comparison with the Gallardo.

MB will always be the leader in torque. All their cars have massive torque.

Um... Gentlemen, I know and respect you all, but may I just interject here with a gentle reminder: DOESN'T MATTER how much torque or HP it's got, a Benz simply cannot compete with the beauty, soul and sound of a Lamborghini. So, Vik, bro, please don't do anything rash -- keep the G :D

Ok, there's my 2 cents, over and out.

To put inquiring minds at rest, would never EVER trade the G on the SL55. But do think MB's done all right with this car.

LOL, this past March, I ran an EVO at Englishtown (first time at the track), I got beat by an EVO MR by .001 sec, but, BUT!, I passed the traps at 113mph, he passed it at 99 mph....... in plain English, he had me off the line by 8-9 car lenths, but I caught up to him at the end. He was not stock..oh yea, we both ran 12.7

if power has increased to 510, did they drop the 63 powerplant and just keep the 55 name?

although very un-mb like, i dont get why they would up the power to 510 then drop a (what is it) 510ish 63 engine

I didn't drive the new one but have driven the SL55 (2005). It is one of my favorites. Most of the AMG's have lots of body roll, especially the CL55, but the SL55 just does everything right. For $125,000.00 its a bargain. Lots of bang for the buck. The car looks good with the steel roof, but I'm still not sold on the hardtop convertable. IMO you give up a lot for a hardtop convertable. The lines look great but the trunk is ridiculous.

lol modified evos do not trap 99. I trap 101 stock with a 13.9-14.1 1/4 time (s2000) and I would get eaten alive by a modifed evo on a roll and especially from a dig.

How embarrassing... I need to go to more racing school, because I have absolutely no idea what the above sentence means. I know it has to do with cars and lap times (I hope) but that's about it.... Wow. Guess I just outed myself. I'm not Schumacher after all.

Not embarassing one bit. I need to learn more about driving techniques like heel/toe downshifting to improve times in autox and just in any spirited driving situation.

Well, I will break it down.

Usually when people refer to a 'trap' or 'trap speed,' they are talking about the speed they are traveling at the end of the quarter mile. The 13.9-14.1 I mentioned in the above post is what most stock S2000s run in the quarter mile. The time is in seconds so it would take me 13.9 seconds to reach a 1/4 mile from a stop and when I reach the 1/4 mile mark I am traveling 101mph.

Now Ed ran 12.7seconds at 113mph. The EVO also ran a 12.7 time but trapped only at 99mph. What does this mean? It means The Evo more than likely killed Ed off the line (awd launches are astonishing) but Ed pulled on him after first gear and caught up.

They finished at the same time but Ed was traveling 113mph while the Evo was traveling 99mph. So if they were to race from a 'roll' (already moving at speed) the Corvette should beat that Evo. If it were from a 'dig' (full stop) it would be a tie or the scale would balance towards the EVO if it was a race to say 60mph (no one does that but just hypothetical).

Just to throw it out there, car and driver tested the veyron in the 1/4 mile and they ran a 10.4 @ 140mph!

oh & I know this is a Ferrari site and most people will care more about lap times around Nurburgring and Monza rather than 1/4 mile times but a 1/4 time is a good indicator of straight line performance and acceleration numbers.

ed: what was your 60' time and the Evos? I'm sure the Evo was 1.6.
