    Need advice:
Ordered 612 because wanted 2+2 but since then decided to get a DB9 Volante for my wife as her toy(Range Rover is her daily driver).
Since DB is theoritically a 2+2 it made me think about a new Maranello(replacement).Getting the Aston next Spring and planned to pick the 612 in late Fall anyway, so I could wait a little bit longer for the 660 or whatever name it gets .
So,get the 612 or the latter?

612 for the wife and Maranello rplct for u ! :D

  3. I would wait for the next maranello because you will basically have two of the same types of cars. It would be nice to have a 2 seater coupe and a 2+2 and SUV and a Sedan.

"612 for the wife and Maranello rplct for u !"

    I agree!

We've been through the same decision. Looked at both the 612 and the DB9. The DB9 strikes me as less a 2+2 than the Scaglietti - but all my wife really wants is a place inside the car (rather than inside the trunk) to store things; she wouldn't use the car to carry more than one passenger.

We finally decided to wait for the new Maranello, and the new Maserati coupe. My wife loves her Mas coupe, and though she also loves the 612, it's not worth it to her to step up to the Ferrari. She preferred the 612 to the DB9. I tried to sell her on a used 456, but for some reason she doesn't like the look. I'm ready to buy the new Maranello sight unseen - but that's "my" car, and we definitely make the distinction between my cars and her cars. I'm not a 2+2 guy, don't need or want the extra space in a sporty car.

    Good luck.

She wants a Volante,so that is settled,I lean toward the Maranello vs 612.

Now I must say what are your wives intended use of these cars?

Not knocking women at all, but a huge hp 612 or DB9 just to cruise down to the shops and back is just plain stupid. Now unless your wife is heaps different to mine, I just can never see these cars used for anything else, ie. my wife would never jump in a car and take it for a thrash around her favourite 'test' track. She definitely would take a trip for sight seeing, but I really hope you guys are NOT forcing your car wishes on your wives ... all I can see happening here is unhappy wives, and eventually 'I hate the bl**dy car' syndrome.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Since you have commited to the DB9. I would definitely switch your
order to Maranello. An early order will ensure a good position on the
    dealers list.

Some women can actually drive. I'll even be totally honest, my wife is much smoother (and therefore quicker) than I am on the track.

She thinks the clutch in a 308 is a joke, she's used to the one in the 365...

Now, back on topic, I'd like to see this guy's real profile before we start making suggestions.

You make a good point about being able to see one's real profile. I respect
everybodies right to privacy but in order to communicate effectively it
would help to be able to see a detail profile.

Didn't say they couldn't ... don't put words in my mouth. I have raced against many very good women drivers, etc. I was just saying that my wife does not think of a car like I do, and thus I would not help her buy a car that I like, but instead one that suits her or she likes.

I am sure there are a few woman that would want a DB9 or 612, but I bet it is not many.

Thus as long as this option IS coming from the wife and not the husband cleverly trying to get another 'interesting' car then all is cool.

She 's no "race car" driver, but she enjoys fast cars and "uses" them well.
Has put a lot of miles on the Autobahns and kept up with the quickest guys.
Suv is her daily grind transport,DB would be her weekend toy.(before ,She had 911 C4,CL55,CLK55 as daily drivers)

Hey, stay out of this, mate. :D

My wife is an enthusiast; though her taste runs to "cute" cars, she has a weakness for the loud and fast. She had a tubi put on the Maserati. Doesn't care about the 575, but loves the Stradale. Has driven a 911 on the track a few times.

Understand what you're saying, Pete, sounds like absent and I have wives with their own strong automotive preferences.

Both if you have the funds.

I think the current Maranello is very good in value now to buy. God knows the next Maranello I would assume will be close to $300k

Although I can afford most of the cars on the market(Enzo,Macca etc notwithstanding),I have my limits, too.
612 was supposed to be our 3rd car(hence the need for 2+2) but since decided to get her the DB9,I've started to reconsider my original plans.(Maranello would be mine, only!)

I had a somewhat similar problem. I put my 10K down on an '04 Maranello in January. When I got the call to spec it out we looked at colors on the net. Well, she said "I don't like that car, looks too much like a vette. I like the Spider better that is what a Ferrari should look like." Inasmuch as I tried to educate her on the classic V12 up front blah blah blah........well, yes dear, I bought an '04 Spider instead- at cost plus.

I still have my 10K down: now for the 360 replacement model. On weds I'm spec-ing out an '05 Vanquish as my daily driver (I drive 100 miles a day). After only a few weeks with my Spider I've decided to trade in my S 55. It's fast as hell on a stright line, but not as much fun.

I'm tempted instead to put the deposit down on the Maranello replacement.

I'd drive each and see what brings the biggest smile to your face. The wife and I will be going to see the 612 for the first time at the China unveiling on Saturday. I can afford it, but I still like the raw feel of the 365 GT4 that is still back in the states.

I think the fact that he's considering it suggest that he doesn't mind the looks. Since we're airing our opinions, I'll mention that I think the 612 is gorgeous.

I think it is understated in a good way,I like it.
If I were to have just one "toy" it would be 612,however ,after deciding to get DB9,I started to have doubts and thoughts of getting something more radical(like next Maranello)

You should have seen the eyes pop out of Charles Carden, the visiting Lambo Atlanta mechanic, when we followed my wife to dinner. She was driving her yellow Murcielago and we were following (trying to) in my neighbors red Murcie.

The 612 is a real 4 seater with actual space for people. Overall a really nice car for many things.

Its always funny to hear people slam the V12 2+2 GTs because they aren't a stripped down mid engined two seater. Some of us actually like having the room for four and the space for all of their crap. Don't knock it until you drive one. They're much more fun than anything from MB/BMW/Lexus, etc...

Because of the steep depreciation curve, they get into the hands of enthusiasts pretty quickly too...

Went with wife to LFSC DB9 intro yesterday, ordered Volante for her right on the spot, will keep the order for 612 at least until there is more known about 575 replacement.(DB arrives in early Spring '05)

  25. Good choice did you ever consider the 360 replacement. ? Seems like it would be alot more fun then a 2+2. And since you already have a fast seadan and a 2+2 and a SUV a toy wouldent hurt.
