After my 5th Ferrari (a 458 spider) order was finalized and as I await delivery, I can't help but reflect on how silly and almost whimsical Ferrari's pricing and answers are at times. For example: Bianco Fuji on Fiat 500 @$500. On Maserati @$8000. On 458 @$28,000! Daytona stripes in different color leather are @ $700. That means 28 strips of leather need to be cut, have holes punched and stitched to seats. (7 rows of 2/seat) To have the center strip on race seat black instead of beige, $1350. 4 total strips and no tooling on strip. I specced it as no big deal. Just not consistent with work/material involved. Then we come to the back wall. Lower leather zone is @$1500. To NOT have the tunnel done, just the back wall is no extra charge. How did they let that happen? But, as I ordered my car in red/tan (boring I know, but only 2nd red Ferrari) I wanted to do something a little different. On the Tailor Made site is a 458 spider with the back wall, tunnel and sills with diamond stitching. This look grew on me, but just wanted to do back wall with diamond stitch. After all, they did it on 612 headliner (@ $1000), 575 back deck, 458 seat, etc. I was told the only way they would do it is as follows: I had to get alcantara lower zone, alcantara carpets, and then stitch the wall, console and sills. Total @ $12,000! The fact that I am going to be eating mac and cheese for the foreseeable future to afford all the options I put in already is not the point. The fact that they can do it but won't I find a little ridiculous. Charge me 3 or 5k and let me decide if I want to be a chump for the day, a year or forever for spending this amount on nothing. But don't charge me 315k for a car and tell me, "No" for something simple that you can and do already. For those of you having fun speccing your car, I hope you too can smile at the randomness of this great company. Fortunately the guys at Ferrari of Atlanta have been great with me so I am able to laugh about it now.

I still find it funny that if you want to have your brake calipers painted flat black, there is no charge.

If you want them painted glossy black, its $1432.

Someone please explain this to me. :)

Just one of the mysteries of Fcars and ownership thereof.

(BTW: Why did they change the V8 model last number with the F355, 360 and F430. Then go back to the 8 with the 458...308,328,348,F355,360,F430,458? How did two Fs get in there?)

My guess is that flat black does not look very good...people will pay up for the glossy black. So they charge what the market will bear. Cannot recall seeing flat black calipers on a 458.

As far as the F355 goes, the last number is 5 because it is 5 valve, as far as the rest, I have no idea.

Ferrari plays the option game well. It does result in each car being slightly different. Porsche has now learned this game too. It does keep the base price lower. But if the base si 232,000 it already rediculous.

That is funny. Since I love Bianco Fuji, I think I'll get a Fiat 500 Abarth done that way. I can have the whole car for less than it would cost on a 458.

I find it funny that no matter how funny the prices are, you have to wait 2-3 years to be able to pay funny prices ....

Seriously, there is no comparison. the cost of paint may be the same for both the Fiat 500, and the Ferrari 458, but the cost of the process is different.... If you put a simple process on the fiat 500 production line it will have a cost....and if the same process is on 458 line it will have 10X cost.....

    355-3.5 liters, 5 valve/ cylinder
    360 Modena-3.6 liters
    F430-4.3 liters
    458-4.5 liters 8 cylinders

I am not 100% certain but the dealership has stated to me that car manufacturers source brake caliper assemblies in full from suppliers like Brembo and the suppliers have certain colors that are common and others that are very low volume and manufacturer specific. Those low demand, low volume colors get charged a premium by the supplier and once you add the Ferrari overhead and margins to that, pricing becomes ridiculously high!

I ended up getting the $12000 option of diamond Alcantara walls
Will have to wait and see how nice it looks.
The picture on the tailor made site sold me :)

I am jealous about you doing Tailor Made option. What color are you doing for wall, tunnel, sills, carpet? And stitching in same or contrasting? When is the car due? I've got to see it!!

Just a few years ago the F1 transmission was a $10k option. Now it's "free." LOL

Same can be said of ceramic brakes.

Ferrari has to lure buyers into more options to make up for all this free stuff. ;)

Dramatic looking for sure... But the diamond stitching reminds me of a casket!

    Hope it works for you!

I am amused by the disparity of the carbon fiber pricing. A small piece costs double what sheets may cost. Don't get me started on the alcantara! In some situations, it is more expensive than leather!😖

"casket" Don't understand where your coming from on this one
Diamond pattern has been used by Bentley Lambo Bugatti and Ferrari
and you think it looks like a "casket" What a morbid thing to say to
    someone ordering their dream car.

They both have the pearlescent appearance. The Bianco Fuji is oil based and Bianco Italia is water based. The appearance is the same. Right Bennett?
