Curious question, I've been toying with the idea of printing out a scale model of the 308 engine. I've got about 90% of it done in 3D CAD due to the design development work I do for Nick. I figured it may interest some out there to have little scale models of either a complete engine or possibly sections, etc..

    Any interest?

I'll put together a basic model and post pics later tonight...

Never mind the engine, can you produce a 1:12 GTS model? All these companies that make 1:12 models of the rarest cars seem to overlook the audience with one of the best-selling Ferraris. I have a 1:12 250 GTO on my desk at work, would LOVE to have a 308.

I'm guessing that's the real deal at Ferrari somewhere.

Hadn't thought of the chassis or body as lots of models cover that, this is more the mechanical guts, engine etc.. Level of detail would only be limited by cost, the more bits the greater the cost to print.

I was going to first assemble a basic engine to see what it would cost to print. Another idea was using the clear acrylic materials for the block and head so that the crank, piston etc could be seen, at the right scale they could be printed captive and be free to move post print.

It is currently displayed in the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari in Modena along with a number of other iterations of the V8 and V12 motors. Plus a number of experimental and rejected F1 motors.

In the photo below the QV motor is towards the back of the room alongside the 288 GTO Evoluzione.

Hey smg2, a couple of years ago we were discussing something about my 3D printer and I was going to show you some of the stuff I had been printing but it never happened. Maybe we should get together now and print some 308 engine parts? :)
In the end you may want nicer quality, but we can run some samples and see how they come out.
Also, my neighbor lent me his Form 1 printer which is much better suited to these types of models than my Replicator.

Absolutely I would be interested!!! My company's model shop has a multi-material Objet printer. If you want to keep it full-scale I can take that... easy enough to scale it down. .STP, IGES, X_T, STL are all welcome formats.

    I'd love one.

But I am afraid your world-renowned work, Scott, would demand more than my coin-purse holds. :(

Mark, I will always help out those who sacrifice everything for us. We are all indebted to people such as yourself for our ability to spend time frittering it away on such flights of fancy as toy models of exotics.

Scott, if there are specific parts missing from your model, I might be able to help. I could do the measurements here and get it modelled by one of the inexpensive people I use since it is more for show, not function.

Justin, there are a few models online, varying accuracy, the ones at casbah and at 3dcadbrowser look ok.

I'd LOVE an accurate scale model of the 308GTB, in 1/12th, or even 1/8th, but all the 1/24th models I've seen are not really accurate either, so I'd be in for a 1/24th which may be the least expensive to produce. As for the engine alone, it should be 1/12th or larger perhaps.
