Stephane's car is really nice. And I think priced way less than it is worth.

While reading about the 1987 dark blue 3.2 cab also for sale now on Ebay, I howled as I found this freudian slip in the large print ad:

"Here is a beautiful 1987 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet 3.2L that runs and drives like a dream and is ready for cursing."

    :)

I'm sorry if I'm putting up some negative spin on this, but I have to post. The guy JUST BOUGHT THE CAR. And now he's flipping it on eBay...

There's something fishy about trying to sell a car that you just bought. There MUST be something wrong with it, if he's not-at-all motivated to keep something he just purchased and raved about here on FerrariChat. I've kept used kleenex longer than this guy kept the car....I feel as though there's something we're not being told here.

Are you talking about Stephane? I don't believe he "just bought it" - - he's an active Fcar kind of guy - one who deals with clientele in a specialized market (models and such). I would be more inclined to trust and believe his pitch as opposed to someone from the depths of the "lake of cars for sale" (made that up just now):)

Agreed. Have never met Mr.Scaledetails personally. But I have bought a couple of things from him on eBay and have watched his style of business and auctions etc. He has it together. Seems like a great guy. Has had a few exotics too.

    Just my .02.

    Cheers,

I believe I saw that car too (I hope we are talking the same car. The one I am referring to is a silver/blue 1987 3.2 Coupe). It had no paintwork whatsoever, completely original. Interior and engine bay looked clean. I saw that car on Autotrader about two weeks prior to that listing and emailed the seller in Kansas, but they replied that it had just been sold. I wonder what must be wrong with it, maybe some tick in the engine or something, because I assume that the guy was knowledgeable enough to determine the state of the gearbox, the clutch etc. Even still had the 30-day tags on it. The guy stated that he had owned 4 Mondials before.

On a side note, I thought Ferrari did not start making the Mondial with ABS until 1988; this was an '87 car. Am I wrong?

Hey guys can any one tell me how much does it take yearly to keep this car well serviced. I may be interested in this car. What is the realistic value of the car. Car seems to need an engine out service.

    Thanks

This is not a Mondial t, but a 3.2 Mondial, so it will never need an engine out service. If you maintain the car and drive it regularly and normally (no racetrack etc.) it should not cost you more than $2k/year, at least that has been my experience. Belt service may cost you anywhere from $2,500 to $7,500 depending on where you go. Good thing is that you will not have the metric tire issue (like the Michelin TRX tires, which would be a pain to find cheaply). That should save you some money over the long term.

As for a realistic value of the car, I would say anywhere from $25k to $29k depending on what is wrong with it. In this case, $29k may be a little on the high side because it needs belt service. But then again it still has its original paint, which is rare for Mondials these days.

    Regards

I just bought a car from Stephane sight unseen. I had a PPI done on it. He is fantastic to deal with. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another car from him just based on the way he handles himself. I have not seen the car, but dont expect any surprises. BTW I believe he is trying to buy a yellow Spider. Maybe thats why hes selling. People sell cars quickly for all kinds of reasons. Dont assume there is something wrong with the car. I sold a Lexus LS 400 5 days after buying it. Just didnt like the feeling of a true luxury car. Needed something sportier.

I know Stephane personally. He has good cars. I have seen almost all of his cars. Each one is in excellent condition. Plus he is never cheap about servicing his cars. Someone will get a deal on this car.

If nothing major is wrong with the car then it is a steal. It looks great on the pictures.

    Hi Guys,

Thank you all for the very nice comments, and I should clarify something. I actually bought this car just last month for my wife from the original owner through a broker, and I personally drove it 850 miles home without one single issue through snow and all. This car is as clean as you will find at any Ferrari concours. In fact, we already had plans to drive it down to the next Cavallino Classic to get a platinum award as I never owned a car this perfect and original. So in short, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, we just decided that in order to get the yellow Spider we had to make that sacrifice financially. A buyer already put a deposit on it pending a pre-purchase inspection, which I have no doubt will pass 100%, so someone will get a superb car for 308 money. You would think someone selling a car this fast would be after a quick profit but I have yet to make a dime on the last 8 Ferraris I bought, I just have this passion about Ferraris and that's where I like to spend it.
Michael, hope you are as happy with your 348 as I was when I got it, your car is also superb.

    Stephane

So Michael, did you sell one of the blue cars to get a red car??? Sounds like you got a good one on the way.

I did. I sold my Daytona Coupe to buy the Ferrari outright. Good swap if you ask me. That Daytona will be hard to beat though bang for the buck. That car flew. 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds.
