    re:348

Maybe he was cutting and pasting and got sloppy.
Certainly sloppy in his ad, maybe English is not his first language:

The 1989 Mondial t has the then new longitudinally mounted 3.4L engine/transmission package of the 348 series so could conceivably be described as a 348.

But it doesn't have the 355 rims and tires as mentioned, nor would they fit.

True, he may have meant a 348 engine.

There are 328 rims on the car in the pics., he may have meant he's throwing those in on the deal.

    Hell, I don't know??

I'll cut the seller a bit of slack here in that this seems to be an issue of symantics. The Mondial t Coupe and Cab. did in fact have the very same "crossover" engine as the 348 model. I may be wrong but I believe the Mondial of 89 was first to change the geography of the engine and tranny - with the 348 following suit in 1990.

As for whether this is scamming, further communication between the seller and intrested parties will certainly reveal more - either in support of or damaging to the integrity of the seller. For now, I'm OK with it........... I think it was just his way of saying "this Mondial is powered by the fantastic 348 engine" :)

    Cheers, Hank

Perhaps, but when something smells fishy. I think it's best to alert the members just in case.

Did you read the add? It sounds ridiculus. This person claims to own 3 Ferrari and doesn't know the differance between a Mondial and a 348. What about the 355 wheels. How does that fit in? I also said it sounds like a scam. If it's not then no harm no foul. Perhaps I'm a little suspicious due to all of the scammers I have come across on Craigslist and eBay.

I would guess he wrote 348 in the title of the ad just so his car comes up in searches people make for the 348. His thinking is that they see it and go "hmmmmm actually maybe it's a Mondial T I want after all"

Notice that 348 only pops up at the end.

I've seen Mondial t ads with 348 references quite a few times before. There are numerous ads with descriptions that are not 100% accurate or don't tell the whole story. For example I'm looking for a 308 GTB (carburettor). Now there are quite a few 308 ads with headers that 'fail' to describe that it's actually an injected or US model. Same for GT4 Dinos. Quite a few 'fail' to mention in the header that it's a 208, not a 308.

As for the wheels, as I read it they are sold as an extra set with the car. He could have included a picture of them to be more clear about this. But I don't see a scam here.

I admit the ad looks odd but I think the heading should have read possible ???? to give the seller the benifit of the doubt and a chance to respond before calling him a scammer. I think good intentions but poor execution.
