I have been in contact with a male by the name of Gary Drenik. Drenik posted an add on Ferrarchat a few weeks back advertising a Lamborghini Islero GTS. I should have known fromthe start something was wrong being that the car was priced at $40K if I remember correctly. So I send him a message through the add and get no response. I then check the add a few days later and it is gone.

Then a few weeks later, I get an e-mail from the guy asking for my phone number so he can talk about the car and that it is in Italy. I tell him no and ask for documentation, history, and pictures of the vehicle. He blows that off and does not provide any. His next e-mail to me was that price is flexible but time is not. I ask yet again for pictures and documentation. Blows me off again. I then get another e-mail today that says the car is in the body shop and he can't get me pictures, then he asks if I will be flying out to Italy soon to purchase the car? I simply told him I know when I'm being scammed and am no longer interested in purchasing the car.

Anyone else have any dealing with this guy Gary Drenik? [email protected]?

    Mike

"Escrow" is the way I can define this guy, he bull****ed me 2 years ago about one Islero to be restored and his down payment procedure.... Then I went in Italy near Lucca and I requested again VIN + pictures or I will cancel the following day appointment. He never replied, so I didn't call him again.

Since I've discovered he is working also on this website :

I thought it wasa funny he wanted me to fly to Italy to close the deal with no information other than the vehicle is in the body shop. I'm sure someone crafty could check his IP and see if he is actually even in Italy.

At the time, I also sent about three or four of my e-mails with him, to both Emilio and another friend.

He never did provide a VIN #

No VIN = a bad idea.

I did not know, from his initial listing, that the "phantom car," was a serious rusty bucket of bolts project.

I guess, he could have listed a nice Islero, that was ready to win it's class at the Concorso.

I wonder how his TV Bed business is going? For any of you visiting Gary in Italy for any reason, no doubt you was subjected to his brilliant ideas and amazing marketing skills referencing his 4 post bed with the TV mounted atop.

One of the most unusual people you'll ever meet, ill leave it at that.

just remember if it is too good to be true pricewise, it is too good to be true. It is amazing in this day and age how many people are scammed on the internet. By asking you to come to Italy, he is just trying to ease your mind that there is a real car and hoping you will send him a deposit. Be careful out there.

Got a response from "Gary Drenik" today. What strikes me funny is his son had to tell this "reputable dealer" that selling this limited production Islero GTS for $40k was not a good idea...haha. This was his response to my e-mail calling him a fraud basically:

On Tue, Apr 6, 2010 at 1:51 PM, Gary Drenik <[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Mike, the advertisement is not running anymore as my 26 year old son came to me about the time you had sent your first email. He did a lot of study for days about Isleros in many diverse sources. He told me Dad please don't sell the Islero too fast and too cheap, or better yet sell my 246GTS and keep the Islero S. He is saying that rarity is due to the internet and trends of this time is that the interest worldwide in Isleros is growing as a Lamborghini collector car. Prices asked for restored Isleros in Europe are from $120,000 to $165,000. Predicted to over $200,000 in coming years. So, my son asked me to suspend offering it for the time now. I had sent information to 2 Fchat persons who proved to be just curious. I have been offered 30,000 euro/$40,200 for it over the phone from northern Europe.
Right from the start, when I asked for your phone number, you said you don't give it out to just anyone. Do you realize I could say the same back to you? That attitude of your immediate distrust offended me causing to conclude that you are unwilling to communicate in a way that at least shows mutual respect.

I have been in the Ferrari business since 1974 and have many references, can think of over 35 now, and 25 of them are customers of the diagnostic computers SD2, SD3 ST5 I have sold all over the world since 2002. Due to a contract to supply a Daytona Spider to an Italian industrialist, this week I should know if to offer the Islero again or not. If you show interest towards purchase I will try to answer. You have the advantage as am not *advertising it to others for awhile. Put it this way, I should phone you, it will get a lot of misconceptions clarified. Just now I see your phone number at bottom of this page. If you would like a thorough understanding of this car and the situation, I will call after your reply. Will be business hours in your time zone. There is no scam of any kind in any way, and if you go to FerrariBuy.com you will see all my advertisements, and every single offer is real, real cars, real parts, real services, real computers. Together with a partner of 24 years we have about 35 Ferraris for sale, few in restoration, including a 1953 340MM VIN 0284 at 2,900,000 euro. We don't advertise the 340MM to public as it destroys the sale, you have heard of "not shopped around." In conclusion, by the end of this week I will know if to sell it soon, or to keep it. Depends on the aforementioned Daytona Spider contract. Sincerely, Gary Drenik.
You asked about service, history, documentation:

Documents include the Foglio Complimentare which shows all past owners since new. This Islero S was always Italian registered and was purchased in Tuscany, Italy. Few Italians ever kept service record receipts in those years so even where it was sold as new I don't know. Can be found out perhaps. I bought it from an authorized Ferrari dealer of the time (provable on the purchase documents) and it ran fine but was tired so we decided to restore it. Confusing is that a lady in the Lamborghini factory phoned me 5 years ago saying they made only 70 Islero GTS, not the 102, or 105, or 100 books claim.

    * advertisement in FerrariBuy Europe is the only exception.

That was a lot of waffle.

Even if that wasn't posted in a thread called "SCAM!" I wouldn't trust someone who sent me a rambling e-mail like that.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
