Suggestion: Take a ride to a local parts store and see if they will let you use a similar tool to clear the codes.

On my 98, I seem to recall the engine needs to be running.

 

For sure many oil change places and places like Advanced Auto parts, AutoZone will scan your car and they can probably see if they can reset the CEL.

 

Harbor Freight scanner works on maseraties. Ibet you the $99 scanner will do the job.

 

Skipp I use dash command successfully.

 

actron cp9180 works for sure on a 99

Great question. I seem to recall discussing this with Skipp prior but don't recall the outcome

 

I used this Bluetooth device to diagnose codes and remove check engine light a year ago. The check engine light has not come back on since.

This is what I use on my 98. Work great.

 

$15 Elm bluetooth scanner and $5 Torque app (Android in my case, pretty sure it's iOS available as well) clears codes perfectly for me on my '98.
