Finally had a chance to put a few hundred miles on it, get used to the clutch in first gear, finally wash it properly and take some scans.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dang! That red/black really looks good. I think the red/tan is more classic, and the red/black more sporty. I really like the look. I take delivery of my 360 today. I had them put a tubi on it before they delivered it. I test drove it and could not handle the Ford Escort sound. I say move on the muffler... Beauty!
Well, moving from a 99 355 with a tubi to the 360 stock was certainly disappointing, at least in the sound category. I am still considering adding a tubi but I am not so sure it will add that much more of a sound to the already quiet 360. Anyone care to chime in? Great pictures of a fantastic looking spider. Congratulations! Regarding the 360 engine note there are a few things worth pointing out. First of all you're not gonna get that screaming 355 sound, no matter what you install in your 360. Sadly it appears that the golden days of the screaming v8s are over. I don't know what's going on at the ferrari factory but where the 360 was a step down from the 355, the f430 is yet another step down from the 360. It's deeper, more bestial and growly, but with the piercing high end compromised. It took a while for me to get my head around this, since it seems strange that ferrari would do a complete turnaround from their traditions. I hope they kick some of that brutal shriek back in with the f430 successor. I've checked out just about every exhaust there is out there in search of the holy one that could rival the 355 with tubi or capristo. Sadly the search continues. Here are my findings so far: Tubi: deep, slightly rumbly, muffled. Sometimes builds up a lot of resonance at idle. Only tried it with the modena, not the spider. Could be better in the spider. Attenuated high freqs and a boost in the mids, to lower range of the sound spectrum. Capristo (level 2 and 3): mean, crisp, LOUD (esp. level 3 which is not recommended for spiders simply because it'll hurt your ears ), a lot of emphasis on the top frequency register. Sparkly, crackly, it gives a sonic sense of more power than the 360 really has. The downside is that some of that mechnical musicality is lost to the extreme emphasis of sher loudness. Still, this is definitely my favorite among the exhausts I've tried. Check out the capristo level 2 for your spider. The closest I've been able to get to the 355 tone. Larini: This one is sort of a cross between the Tubi and the Capristo, perhaps leaning slightly more towards the Tubi. It has decent volume, a nice and musical tone, good highs and little cockpit resonance. Seems like a good choice if you can't decide between tubi and capristo, or want the best of both worlds. MaxSpeed: While similar to the tubi, there's less emphasis on the low end, and a bit more in the mid/highs range. It has a rawer, rougher sound with quite a lot of bite and snarl. The highs aren't as impressive as with the Capristo. Kreissieg: I haven't heard this one in person yet, but from what I can tell based on their website sound clips and various youtube video clips this is perhaps the exhaust that comes closest to the old 355 sound. It is very F1-like, with a clean output and a clear and present high end. It seems to have it all. Any owners care to comment on it? X-Haust: Sounds very similar to the Tubi. Slightly cheaper, though. Didn't interest me all that much. Finally, whatever you decide on, make sure you get a pair of Hyper-Flow cats. Not only will they add roughly 25 HP on average throughout the main rev range, but they will cool down the engine compartment and give a much cleaner and louder output through your exhaust. Good luck!
Great taste in cars for sure!!! I have a Capristo in mine and I couldn't be happier...it's loud when it needs to be and subdued when it needs to be. Here's a quick vid for you to hear the exhaust note (it's after the SLR) http://www.car-parazzi.com/display/index.cfm?display=ItemDetail&media_id=20414 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have purchased a MS racing from Japan, will post sound clips when it is installed. I hear that it also has that screaming F1 sound. Anyone hear one before? I hear it's very rare.
I should have been more clear, I got used to the slip and surge in first gear.. its a little annoying and you have to pay attention..
