http://www.camelspiders.net/ Gives some info on the camel spiders. A friend of mine that was in Afghanistan said they were everywhere in the area he was in. He said they would walk around with you b/c they wanted to stay in the shadow.
i was once a handsome man until i got bit by a spider on the face. now this pic is extremely scary, its not for anyone that has a weak stomach or just ate lunch, last warning------------ this is the after effects of the spider bite--------- Image Unavailable, Please Login
I see them around here from time to time. I killed one last week near my master bath. I also get the occasional black widows in my garage - you have to be careful around those little ladies. I usually spray them...shame because they're pretty rare to see. Some people, like the guy in the pic, have severe allergic reactions to BRs. Most people do not. Either way, I don't wanna find out. Make sure you smack your shoes together before slipping them on - they tend to hide in shoes. I also get cottonmouth snakes and pygmy rattlers on my back lanai occasionally. I enjoy killing them - that's why the neighbors always call me when they see one. RMX
Glad to hear she is well Bruce, Give her my best wishes! I was bitten by one a couple years ago, luckily the Dr's office I went to had a nurse who just started working for the doctor two weeks prior to my visit. Before that she worked in a special lab which specialized in insect bites... she recognized it RIGHT AWAY and told the Doctor exactly how to treat it. I was super lucky! Honestly, I wish I had never seen those pictures, they made me extremely queasy.
My brother told the same He was in Kyrgisistan (Spelled wrong i know) and saw them there too. Both him and I are extremely scared of spiders... so not fun to meat those big beasts
pfewww right now i'm glad i live in cold Denmark Here we only meet those creatures in the zoo We don't have creatures more dangerous as bees!
Thanks for the warning on the Brown Recluse. They started showing up here in the Pacific Northwest, USA in shipments of cargo from the southwest and overseas about 25 years ago. I remember the name "Fiddleback" given to these. I have plenty of spiders around my house but are mostly Wolf spiders. I leave them alone and they leave me alone. They eat all of the other bugs and stuff. I have seen videos of the big "Camel" spiders actually running after a person in the desert. Very fast!
Looks like Snopes downplays the effects of a brown recluse bite: http://www.snopes.com/photos/bugs/brownrecluse.asp
Point is, they are not to be trifled with. A spider bite that takes months to heal is not something you particularly enjoy. Why be that one person out of a thousand recorded cases where it does more than itch? There are pictures of someone being bit in the back of their head and having major skin problems and other reported bites circulating the internet. I wouldn't get near something that could remotely cause that if it gets infected, etc. Squash on sight. Sunny
The person I know that got bit went to the hospital and was given drugs. The wound did not get as bad as the later pics on that page but did look something like the early ones. There was swelling and discoloration. It did take a couple of months to all go away completely. http://home.texoma.net/~linesden/spider.htm http://www.spiderbitetreatment.com/index.htm The first link says that people still have evidence of the bite up to two years. The second link is a MD's page and gives a lot of info as well as the stun gun method for after the bite. The bit pics on the second link are not as bad as what I have seen in person. I don't know if there was more venom in my friend or not.
Oh my!!!! Just fed my fantasy about spiders brrrrrr .... will shake the towels, shoes...my whole bed etc in the future :/
