I've just went to have a look at a Schedoni luggage set that was for sale not that far away (1 hour drive)...

They look very good on the outside, but the inside was completely "dusty" / "flaky". So I walked away quite dissapointed because the seller advertised them as "very good".

But now I'm reading it is very common for Schedoni bags of this era... was I wrong to walk away? Are they all like this?

And is this the reason why almost all sellers only post pictures of the outside and almost never of the inside (unless re-uphostered)?

    yes, that's it.

Maybe sometimes they look good, but if you touch them - even gently - you will destroy it. They are a time bomb, except the ones very old, who had a different interior.

I found the way to restore them with the same interior leatherette, so you will gain 20 years of extra life, but it's very expensive.

Schedoni shop usually doesn't rebuild interiors, but if they will they will use a fabric interior, so originality will be lost.

    Ciao

It depends at what price you walked away from.

If your goal is to have an original set, for show or display, who cares about the insides.
If the goal is to USE it, well then those little flakes get into EVERYTHING and are quite annoying.

If it was $5K USD for the set, you shouldn't have walked. If it was $10K for the set....meh, not a great deal by any means.

You got the point: usually nobody uses them as suitcases to store anything. They are a car complement to admire, a piece of history to enjoy in your living room or to display aside your car or in the trunk at a Concourse.

They were an official Ferrari option for your car, called "luggage set"

    Ciao

I clearly was wrong to walk away, they were sold directly after I've left :(

Another set will come up. Or, if you actually want functional luggage and acquiring a Schedoni set is not that important to you, see the thread in the 308/328 area about the outfit in the UK who are making aftermarket luggage for 308s. I have a set coming and will post on it when it arrives here. So far, the reviews have been quite positive. These are not copies of Schedoni's sets but a different design altogether.
