I just had my car transported by Intercity Lines from Virginia to LA. I have used them twice before and can’t say enough good things about what a wonderful job they do.

In this case, I did have some frustration in scheduling the pickup and wanted to share my experience, in the hope that it might be of assistance for others to understand how Intercity seems to handle scheduling.

I planned to fly out to Virginia to inspect the car, and wanted Intercity to pick it up during the following week. Intercity said they needed 10 to 14 days to schedule pickup, which was fine with me. So, about four to six weeks before I needed them to get the car, I made arrangements with them. Basically, I was flying in on July 7, and wanted the car picked up anytime during the week of July 10. I also said the car could be available as early as July 8, although that was less convenient.

I called again to confirm about ten days before I was to travel to Virginia. At that point, Intercity told me that they would schedule the car for pickup 10 to 14 days AFTER the day it was available, July 8. That was a week too late for me! I pointed out that this procedure basically made it impossible for anyone to ever get their car picked up on the day it became available, even if they tried to schedule (as I did) weeks in advance. I found this very frustrating. Intercity explained that they were not FedEx, that they had a limited number of trucks, etc. That still did not (and does not) explain to me why with ample advance notice they can’t schedule the 10 to 14 day pickup window in advance. I suppose many times this will not matter; in my case, for various reasons, it did matter.

Ultimately, I was able to ask the seller to make the car available July 1, which he kindly did. And with that Intercity was able to schedule pickup during the period I had hoped for, and all was well.

This may or may not matter to you, but please be aware that when Intercity says they need 10 to 14 days to schedule a pickup it does NOT mean 10 to 14 days from the date you try to schedule the pickup, it means 10 to 14 days from the day the car is first available for pick up. So, if you have a seller who says “the car is available on Monday, please have it picked up by the end of the week” you may not be able to do that with Intercity because they will need 10 to 14 days after the car is available to actually pick it up, and that puts you well into the following week.

In all other respects I was once again pleased with their courtesy and efficiency. They are a fine company and I recommend them without hesitation, as long as you understand how they schedule things and can work with that.

I had a similar experience with them regarding scheduling. Mine was more of an issue with the dropoff. They stated the car had to be dropped off the day it arrived at the destination even if I was not there, but could not provide a specific date when it would arrive.

As a result I was forced to utilize another carrier.

My experience with them was nothing less then excellent. Coast to coast for 2 grand + or – a couple hundred is the going rate for any enclosed first class operation. The car must be ready before they finalize. Mine was ready for pick up June 17 and delivered July 1, exactly 14 days. They drive excellent equipment with experienced drivers. The driver called me after pick up, once again along the way and an hour before delivery. Got a call the next day (Sunday) to ask how the driver was as a follow up.
I would use them again in a hart beat

I used them with complete satisfaction as well. And they did a better job of inspecting the car than the Ferrari dealer did on the PPI...
