don't tell anyone. ;) I have never been to the Texas/OU game. I lived on Greenville 90's and certainly participated in many game weekend celebrations. I have also been to the Fair.

so weekend my college friends are coming for Patriots game we're also going to Texas/OU.

what do you recommend for tickets? what is a good game plan for day? do the fair before game when not crowded, then get out of there hang out Dallas after?

Fair will be crowded all day, but worse late. If you're doing the fair, go early. Don't miss the car show. ;)

Skip TU/OU and do the FCA Regional Meet instead.

Already nixed that since we're doing the Patriots game. :) My Boston friends could care less about the Ferraris too.

My daughter is a senior at OU, and she is part of the marching band (next best thing to having a kid on the football team). They attend the Texas/OU game every year. She says that the game is a madhouse. Plan to get there early. The game is probably already sold out, so probably something like stub-hub is your best bet. I'd get there early and bring a big helping of patience. You might also check DART - I think they have train/bus service down to fair park. That might be easier and safer than driving and parking.

OU has some of the most rabid football fans I've ever seen (and I went to Texas A&M). Those people are crazy. It's something your Boston friends need to see to believe. I've never been to the OU/Texas game, but we occasionally go to other OU games because we get cheaper "parent" tickets. It's always a sellout in Norman, and always a riot - sometimes literally a riot. I've been in the stands when the local cops had to come settle "disputes" between rival fans. OU is a fairly small school (18K undergrads), yet still sells out every home game in a 82K person capacity stadium.

As for having a daughter at OU, it was an interesting discussion when she announced her intentions. Both Mom and Dad are Aggies. OU was (is) considered a mortal arch enemy. However, her reasoning was strong (almost 100% graduate placement for her field of study, and a nationally ranked football program that would get her sent to bowl games as part of the band). After visiting the school and the Norman environments, we agreed with her reasoning. It really is a great school, and much, much smaller than most other public/state universities.

The real question is: what side do you wish to sit on? The crowd is divided at the 50 yard line.

will probably try for UT as one of my buddies lives in Austin now and I was born in Austin. UT is at least a little more Texas than OU is. :D

Ha, I think the difference in my experience (Grandpa, Uncle, and Cousin Aggies) are that O.U. can act like a cult sometimes where Aggies unapologetically really believe in the cult. :D

And everybody hates Texas Tech because we act like misfit underdog pirates, our main bond is that we're stranded in the sea of red dirt and high winds and we hate Aggies :D

The game is fun. It is definitely unique. I've been many times. Even people with no vested interest have a blast. You need to be a sports fan though. You can usually get cheap tickets at the main gate inside the fair before kick off.
