Don't believe the stories that Michael was pushed out of Ferrari. There was a lot of family pressure. He is quite content with retirement and not avoiding going to the races for any reason except he is having a good time with the family.

Got a call from a Miami friend and read a confirming article. He missed Bahrain because he was sitting by the pool Monday at the Ritz in South Beach. Of course, he was reading a German racing magazine. Cigar smoking.

Seven time world champion Michael Schumacher is showing no sign of regretting his decision to retire from formula one.

The major European newspaper Bild on Wednesday published a paparazzi photograph of the 38-year-old German, wearing nothing but bathers and sunglasses, lying beside a luxury hotel swimming pool in Miami (USA) with a huge cigar between his fingers.

Another photo snapped the former Ferrari driver, perched on a sun bed alongside his wife Corinna at South Beach's Ritz-Carlton, flipping idly through the pages of a racing magazine.

'Bild' humorously concluded that Schumacher had swapped pole position for 'pool position', and an observer added that the former driver was enjoying his holiday with his family without being recognised as a famous racer.

Schumacher's schedule will get a bit more serious next Monday, however, when he speaks at the launch of the UN Road Safety Week in London.

Schumacher, who recently played a match for his local squad FC Echichens, has also signed on to become a 'Swiss ambassador' for the UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament.

Nice. No way will he have the privacy like that in Europe. Only NASCAR-merica.

Don't know what i'd even say if I bumped into him on the streets.

He always liked the U.S. since very few people here knew who he was. That goes for almost all of the F-1 drivers. Back in February 2000 I was at a covered driving range hitting some golf balls on a rainy Saturday here in Las Vegas. I was the only one there when someome came in and set up next to me. I didn't pay much attention at first, but heard the British accent and looked over to see Nigel Mansell. He was very friendly and we struck up a conversation about his F-1 career. He then spent about 15 minutes giving me some good lessons on hitting my driver. He can hit a ball as well as he could drive a car. I think he was as surprised to run into someone who knew him as much as I was to see him here in Las Vegas.

I wonder he dialed up Eddie Irvine while in Miami? That would be weird, seeing those two out at a pub in Miami.....

Don't think that him and Irvine really got along that well. Great photo though, nice speedo.

It's great he and his family can find a place to relax without all the paparazzi nonsense all over him. If he really want's privacy, he should come up to Central Michigan, during Walleye or Deer Hunting Seasons. Maybe he would like to do some ice fishing, next Winter? ;)

    Ciao...Paolo

They dont have pubs in Miami, they have clubs. It must be nice for Schumi to have an entire country as a safe haven where nobody notices him.

Isn't privacy a big part (besides the tax status) why he settled on Switzerland to call home?

Does he still has the Falcon jet?
