It feels like some kind of karma. For Ferrari more than Schumacher. Maybe for every retail client that has had enormous repair bills or rebuilds. Marketing strategy always loved to borrow directly from "our racing technology".

This really sucks... I was really pulling for Michael, too... I wonder if this will at all effect his decision to retire... I was so hoping he'd go out on the highest note... Now that seems highly unlikely...

Is there any way someone could have sabotaged his engine...? I just can't fathom how this could've happened... He hasn't had a blown engine since 2000...

This should be in the racing section, and your title really does spoil the race for anyone who hasn't had the chance to watch it yet.

Besides that the thread starter is a banned user - guess he gets his kicks by spoiling things for others - I can't believe there are actually responses to his bait. Hopefully a moderator will see this very soon and remedy the situation.

I don't know why he was banned. Look under his screen name and you'll see Rookie
    Banned User

If you go to the profile, there's no information and it references banned user. Wonder how that got thru the system?

I reported it to a moderator so hopefully soon the situation can be fixed.

He was banned for 10 days for posting a spoiler in the thread title on the main section. Obviously, a banned user can't post, so the banning happened after the thread...

If both cars were running at the end, Alonso could say he beat Schumacher. At this point, he got a give-away, he did not beat Schumacher. I am still not convinced that Fernando Alonso is truly a world champion. It may inevitable the Alonso will win the 2006 driver's championship, but that does not make him the class of world champion that Michael Schumacher is, and always will be.

Just curious, why are you even on FChat if you are such an Alonso fan?

    Ron,

I too am a Schumie fan but let's face it; his bonehead move at Monaco has come home to roost. Ferrari engines owe nothing to Michael Schumacher. If he doesn't win the championship he has no one to blame but himself. But if Fisi, Kimi, or Massa can take Alonso out in two weeks...;)

Ron, not everyone thinks MS is great world champion, especially me. I really like Alonso because he has exhibited great driving skill and has not tried to win his championships by intentionally driving into his competitors' cars. I'm here on F-Chat because I love Ferrari cars and racing, specifically Formula One, but that does not mean that I have to like or respect MS. If MS had won only 4 of his championships but not had his lapses of judgment when his talent ran out, I would be a fan of his because then he would have exhibited much more of the purported "class" that you speak of. The fact that you and others are so willing to casually forget Schumacher's indiscretions on the track speaks volumes to the effect that you are more concerned with the number of victories and championships than you are the quality of the person who wins them. There are a lot of people on this site that have also rooted for Kimi before he ever signed for Ferrari; are you saying that they had no place here as well? I root for Alonso because I think he is a decent guy and a hard working driver that has earned his first WDC and most likely his second in 2 weeks and he has done it with clean driving and few mistakes. I would rather see him get pissed off and say things that perhaps he shouldn't than watch him crash his car into his competitors because he cannot lose with class. Alonso is beating Schumacher so just accept that your hero's reign (I said hero, not gyro) is over and get over it.

The same goes to you too, Carol. I'm no teeny-bopper.

Schumacher won a few championships because of superior reliability. Do those championships not count? Schumacher has had the most reliable run out of any of the previous world champions.

Alonso had an engine blow in Monza. Michael had an engine blow in Suzuka.

Alonso had a wheel nut fall off. Michael had a steering rack issue in the same race and got 1 point.

Alonso had the mass damper removed. Michael had an accident in Australia.

Alonso had blocking penalties. Michael had blocking and passing under the wrong flag penalties.

    Seems pretty even to me.

Edit: Here's some quick math if both drivers finished all races.

MS: Australia, accident while running in 6th place (qualified 10th). Add 3 points for him. FA unaffected.
FA: Hungary, wheel nut while running 1st. Add 10 points for him. Subtract 1 point from MS for being moved from 8th to 9th.
FA: Monza, engine blow while running 3rd. Add 6 points for him. MS unaffected.
MS: Suzuka, engine blow while running 1st. Add 10 points for him. Subtract 2 points from FA who would be in 2nd.

    Total MS: 12 points add.
    Total FA: 14 points add.

Net: Add 2 to FA making gap 12 meaning title would've been clinched in Suzuka.

So actually FA has been harmed more from DNFs this season than Michael.

A good recap, it clearly shows that reliability has been less of an issue this year as it has been in previous years. Not only that but each driver has been exceptionally reliable. Comparable to the 2003 year, etc.

Hmmm, a WDC won due to the rival's mechanical problems is not a real championship? Then I guess about 75% of all WDC need to be returned...??

Moronic, simply moronic. But nothing less than I expect from you, simpleminded, superficial, and uninformed.

And where does it say that you can't enjoy Ferraris and still be an Alonso fan? This is Ferrari Chat, not Schumacher Chat. The problem is that idiots like you can't distinguish between the Ferrari team and Schumacher the driver. I am a huge Ferrari fan but I am not a Schumacher sycophant. You, alas, are.

Remember Red Bull's Ferrari engine failing after Hungary ? Failure was attributed to running traction control in wet. China was a wet race and all this traction control running probably weakened MS's engine.

Hmmm, It seems to me that you may like to dis like schumacher as much as we like him... I dont think Schumacher has as many crashes into his rivals as has been made out... I can only think of Villeneuve, and Coulthard... that really pop to mind... I think Schumacher deserves a better ranking in the F-1 history books, and will over time be regareded as the best driver in Formula One.

Ok, but you should also factor in the Monaco qualifying mess. If MS had taken his lumps and settled for 2nd on the grid, how would this change things??

I think this is great and well put, but it's not quite complete. Are there other instances like Monaco that should be factored in?

Frankly, all else being equal (ignoring the analysis above and accepting those results as they happened), if MS hadn't done that at Monaco, he might have clinched by now. Or at least would still have a fighting chance going in to Brazil. As it stands, only an absolute miracle could save his 8th now.... [IMHO]

What he did in Monaco was his choice. The wheel nut, the steering rack, Australia accident, engine blow ups for both were NOT their choices. Should we then add "what if" Alonso wasn't penalized at Monza? You're adding too many variables. I kept in plain and simple with facts.

I wish I could agree with that old saying right now, but Michael would have to finish first and Fernando 9th or worst for Michael to win the title. Unfortunately that is just not going to happen.
