    On Gazetta della sport..

Schumacher about the extention of his contract after 2006:

''The car needs to be competitive. Otherwise I don't think I will have the desire to continue my carreer in 2007. In Formula 1 you cannot stand still. I want to know: Which way is Ferrari going ?''

''I have made mistakes which I know I couldn't permit. After all the succes we had, carelessness creeps in, you want to do a lot based on your routine.''

As I said before this is his last season in F1. Kimi and Rossi in 2007.

The real question remains: Was USGP 05 his last victory?

Doubtful. He says the same thing all along - as long as he is competitive he will keep racing.

There are a million people speculating about his retirement. BUt it's like saying every day "its gonna rain today!". Sooner or later they will be right, but they will ignore that they have been wrong for so many days before :)

Before retiring for good, Schumacher should put his b*lls back on and compete in the most complete race of all, Le Mans.

I agree. MS is a great driver, but IMO, an egotistical, obnoxious human being. He has run more people off the road than any other driver I can think of in the history of racing

I honestly think he's bored of it, so as soon as he's not the only guy they talk about he will walk. Hell he doesn't need the $$, it's all an ego boost at this point.

i remember someone telling me that Ferrari was famous around the 60s by winning several championships in a row and the next year going completly blank, did this happen?

I surely hope not. He's got at least one more left in him, if not many more depending on tyres/qualifying.

He can retire now and is well set for ever. He can probably buy Ferrari since he has won the most $ of any pro driver....

If he really is such a great racer, he would also win in a car "less than the best".

Better still, he would see it as a challenge to get SF in a winning mood again.

Don't most of his fans claim that it was he who built SF into the well-oiled F1 titles winning machineM

Now that Ferrari isn't wiining, those same fans blame everyone exept MS.

Sounds like a strange reality to me.

He DID race at Le Mans but screwed up.

IMHO he is just a vey good racer who clinched more GP wins and titles by running people off the road than anybody else.

He needs the best equipment to be the fastest racer.

    Again, a strange reality.

Kimi, Fernando, Jenson and a lot of the rest are simply more fun than Herr Schumacherever was, is and will be.

In F1, the whole package matters much more than the driver individually. This is very different from MotoGP, where the rider is the largest factor of success.

    I'm with Mike on this.

Agree 100%. Give me a good driver and some GREAT engineers and you'll do well in F1; the fact that Rossi won the championship in his first year on a Yamaha manifests how much more important the pilot is in MotoGP.

I also think that MS has a great chance of winning the WC this year, and that he will retire as WC.

In my mind Schumacher is one of the top 5 greatest drivers of all time. bar none, and I may say he is the best - but that is debatable.... to win 5 champioships in a row... to keep fit, concentrated, motivated, and to put up with the overwhelming stress... its amazing not alone to drive the car... if anyone thinks that the drive is not a large part in F-1 you are dreaming! Barichello had the same machine... did ok, but no where close to Schumacher, Irvine? not even a shadow... Schumacher is a thinking driver now, like Lauda, Prost, Senna, Stewart... when you are the best you are the best... till you aint! if he leaves its certainly time... if he has the desire he could be the next Stewart, and be even more famuous and make more money out of the car! from the way I look at it this upcoming as a very dangerous season... he's either the oldest driver or very close to, and he is under pressure... than is when you take chances, driver harder, believe your own press and then you have a massive accident and either die, or never are the same again... I think he should call it quits now... and stay alive. give his money away or what ever he wants to do... there is nobody currently in F-1 that will be like him, Kimi... likes to play... and is really not serious, Alonso... to erattic, that leaves you with Massa... not enoupgh info yet most everone else is either too young, or on their way out..... I think Schumacher will come close this year, but will not win ... if he does its cause Ferrari have it all figured out before all the other teams. my money would be on McLaren and Montoya.

You might be right on this, but I'm not sure. Irvine might have more money, being one of the richest Brits there ever was.

Spirot: I totally disagree with your comments about Kimi and Alonso. They are the next Schumacher in the making. I don't think anybody will ever trump MS' number of titles etc., but I do believe these two are on the same level drivingwise. And that you even mention Massa (a has been before he ever was) in the same sentence...

MS is still a top 3 driver. He's after another championship; not to promote Ferrari, he'll do what it takes.
    Show me a non-egotistical, non-self centered, F1 driver and I'll show you a backmarker.

You know, you cant believe all you read....Im sure its been twisted. Im sure he was saying, I need a competetive car to win, if I dont win, I will quit/retire from F1. I do not believe he would make a negative statement like that. Why? because when he wins, he thanks the janitor that cleans the shop, its out of charachter to be quoted like this after ferrari has also been home for him.

i 100% agree. he didn;t threaten in any way. most likely, he will only quite the sport if HE is not competetive, if he keeps on losing to younger guns and maybe if he loses his motivation. schumi is no quitter. we all know that. altho he basiclly has nothing much more to prove in F1, it's the passion that keeps him going. in my view, i feel good that he lost the title last season. why? becos that will only renew his hunger to challege for the title once again with more motivation and more aggressively.

Some ppl may of forgotten he did come 3rd last year and that was a BAD year.....

He is 37 not 23, he doesnt need to be cruising around at the back of the field, if he is uncompetitive he should retire but if he is still near the front he should push for 10 Championships :D

Now the thing is, last year the rules were against him/Ferrari, anyone who cant see that you are on the wrong page. Alonso was given the championship last year(it could of been Kimi).

Now this year Ferrari will be back near the front and he will be winning again to show these Young Guns how its done and to silence all the haters :p
