In an interview Michael Schumacher said, that he doesn't think the 7 Michelin teams ought to be further punished by the FIA. The fact, that they couldn't win any points at the USGP was punishment enough.

I am sure they will get plenty of punishment from there sponsors. I also wonder how many of those teams are looking at alternate tire suppliers for the future?

I doubt any of them are. Their current tire supplier has given them tires that have allowed them to win every race this year, save the last one. Their tires are clearly superior to Bridgestone tires this year.

I would much rather have a tire that lets me win 1/2 the races and DNF in 1 or 2 of them, than one that will get me to the end every time, just half way down the pack (or worse).

So far this year, we have seen Schumacher dicing it up with Villeneuve, we've seen the Ferraris fighting for position with the Jaguars/Red Bull cars. We've seen Schumacher getting lapped by the faster cars. Who would want that, if such is the price of not having tire failures?

lol wow... amazing Schumacher is happy with Sunday. He finally got a win and Ferrari is now back in it as well.

So who should make things right with all the suckers who are out $1000s just for the extreme pleasure of watching Ferrari not race one another.... hmmm Schumi????

Stupid question really... we got to watch Ferrari and Schumacher!!! A bargin at any price!!!

When I first read this, my thought was "well points will be docked for sure now."

MS saying they shouldn't be punished is the logical way to go for him. Think about it from his perspective. This way, if points are taken away, MS is on record as being against the punishment. My guess is Mosley already knows what he is going to do, the rest of this is just posturing by the drivers and teams.

MS would be the biggest beneficiary of the points docking, this way it doesn't look like he is pushing for it in a self-serving manner.

If points are not taken, MS also serves himself well by the comment, looking like a good sport about the whole disaster.

He has nothing to gain by pushing for further punishment in the court of public opinion.

I hope that they don't take any points away from any drivers or the team and don't manipulate F1. I hope we can put the USGP behind and get on to real racing. Michelin screwed up, lets not screw up the WC. Let Ferrari win it or lose it on there own.

Michelin shot themselves in the foot this time and it really costs them a lot of unwanted PR bad press and that's not good for their products.
Teams should not be punished or blamed as who would want to risk their cars and drivers when one of their suppliers declared that their product wouldn't hold up!

In stead of punishment, they should reward those teams for saving lifes........

If only it were that simple. I think F1 will be turned upside down in the coming weeks and months as the power-struggle between the FIA and the GPWC continues. There probably will be other races like the US GP and there may well be some races cancelled. It'll be interesting and frustrating to watch. I have no idea what the premiere open-wheel racing formula will look like or be called and I don't know if Ferrari will be competing in it. :(

If the GPWC vs F1 war is behind all this, then yes we have a bad time ahead.

Other than that I just don't see why the FIA would take away points: They changed the rules in the last few years to have a different outcome than MS on Ferrari. Taking the points away would simply return the championship to the status quo.

Also I don't see them banning teams for life (yeah right, why not cancel the season!) or for some races: If you ban teams for some races, you basically end up with a six car Petit Prix again. Precisely the opposite of what they wanted.

    My FIA prediction:
    - harsh words
    - heavy fines for the teams (or drivers but picked up by the teams)
    - 3 race ban on probation for repeat offenders

    Lets wait and see.

Are you serious? How can you reward this type of B.S.? Car racing, especially F1, is one of the most dangerous sports out there, that's why they make the real money. Michelin hid behind this B.S., everyone knows it. The track temp was supposed to increase by 12-15 degrees for Sundays race, they simply overshot their estimates and through the "safety first" crap, tried to change the rules.

If you want to save lives, send money to Africa, 25 million people die each year and no one hears about it, socialism is dead.....

If it goes any further than "harsh words" we'll be looking at a split series next season.

The FIA have fumbled with the(ir) ball(s) enough and Max comes off as a senile Emperor; sitting on his couch, sipping tea, telling the people on the ground "what's best."

Didn't the drivers/teams do what they did because the tire was not safe at the speeds they were running????? Seems to me to be a no brainer, park it if you are going to hurt yourself and maybe somebody else. It could have been very bad. We will never know, but what we do know is that there are several F-1 drivers that are not fools. Congrats to all of them.
