Ferrari have announced that they have at long last found a role for Michael Schumacher in the Scuderia set-up after the former World Champion struggled to find a niche. From now on he will dress up as heroes of the American music industry at all the races he visits. At the European GP, sporting a shirt bought at the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville he chose Country and Western legend Hank Williams. In Turkey he will arrive as Elvis, at Monza Jon Bon Jovi, and in China he will imitate Madonna on the 1987 Who's That Girl tour. Jean Todt has already agreed to buy the dress for a six-figure sum.

I read an interesting interview with Niki Lauda who thinks MS' role is purely as a mascotte: He states that Michael puts on the headset so he doesn't have to talk to anybody because he got nothing to say.

This could easily be true, however, if this were the case it would make more sense for MS to simply not show up.

MS turns upm, and is unfortunately allowed in, because he does not know what to do with his life post F1 yet. It would be kinder if the team refused entry and thus helped him look for something to do ... his family would thank the team.

Many F1 drivers have stated in the past it is hard to hang up the helmet and life feels empty afterwards. I imagine this happens in lots of sports, etc. but the only road to happiness is to drop it cold turkey and leave it behind!

I think he said he wasn't planning to attend any more races becasue his information was already out of date and had little to offer.

That was exactly the rationale Lauda used: Whatever MS knew it is outdated by now because of the fast changing technology in F1.

I hate to interrupt this thread with a serious thought or two, but difficulty in retiring is a well documented phenomenon. People usually derive a lot of self-esteem from their jobs as well as friendships and attention. Check a good book on retirement and it will address the issue. For someone like MS the whole thing is exaggerated because he put so much of himself into the sport and he was so successful. Instead of just showing up and racing, he worked hard to stay in good shape, worked with the designers and with the mechanics. A family doesn't replace those things. One of the most stressful times in a marriage is when one of the partners retires, especially when the other one doesn't work. It would be highly impractical in most cases, but the best way to retire would probably be to work 10% less each of a person's last ten years.

That would mean that Laudas' mind is now a complete vacum as he really hasnt made much sense lately.

for some reason, i never liked to read Lauda's comments. 90% of the time, it's always some negative comments.
