Flying to the UK this weekend, and will bring back this one unless something more interesting catches my eye. I always carve out time for duty free booze shopping on my return because Heathrow T5 has a great whisky area. It does take time, though, to rebottle my over-one liter purchases into spare soda bottles...

Thanks Jim, I'll have to try those next time.

I ended up not getting scotch this time and ended up with Tequila instead. Drinking it neat though. :)

Taste is very smooth, but it doesn't last very long.

Nice to drink, but I think I won't buy it a second time

This is a new Caol Ila as far as I know.

Don't know what age it is because it doesn't have an age on the label. I guess it isn't that old.

Don't get me wrong; it tastes good!

And yes; I mostly drink Islay :)

Nice!!! I just finished a bottle of Oban Little Bay, recommended! Bruichladdich is also very nice, really liked the Port Charlotte Scottish Barley.

    I have a Springbank 66, a Springbank 67 and a Littlemill 65 that I'm holding onto.

Already had the Macallen 1875 with my dad when my son was born so there's no other worthy occasion.

when I find something I really love (or see that its price is going skyward), I buy two and hold one while drinking the other. The 2015 Cairdeas is a 200th anniversary bottle; not really that much different than their 18yo, but limited and marks a hallmark achievement by one of the best distilleries out there.

    Macallan 12 sherry cask
    Glenmorangie Dornoch (travel exclusive)
    Aberlour 16
    Aberlour A'bunadh Batch 50 (46 and 48 were delicious)

Balvenie 15 Single Barrel (favorite any time Speyside)
Redbreast 12 Cask Strength (superior to 12yr and 15yr)

Balvenie 15yr Single Barrel is the one I can't live without having a bottle around.

I discovered this after the Whisky Experience in Edinburgh one evening and since then all scotch I try, particularly Speyside, pot still, and Japanese whisky is measured against it.

I also have the most duplicates of it (5x). They don't make it any longer, having replacing it with the 12yr Single Barrel and First Fill. The 15yr costs between $110-125/bottle depending on tax and shipping.

It's one of the last whiskys selected and bottled by the great David Stewart.

Those three years difference and the oak definitely makes for a different scotch, so I bounce between the 12yr Single Barrel which enhances the vanilla, honey, and takes out the spice with the same "I just licked a piece of oak" build up on the back of the palate. You can find the 12yr relatively easily.

I would put in Nikka from the Barrel and Yamazaki 12 in this list, but the first has to be imported into the US and the second was hard to find locally. I haven't tried to find Yamazaki in Colorado yet.

    This is the one:

Sullivans Cove WhiskyProducts Archive - Sullivans Cove Whisky

I have tried the Sullivans Cove American Oak Cask and it is superlative but at $1000 per bottle out of my price range. Way out....

But I did buy this: Sullivans Cove American Oak and am in love with it. $255/bottle

Need to convince myself to buy this: Sullivans Cove French Oak. $400/bottle (Ouch!)

Also should look at some Japanese Scotches:

Suntory Yamazaki (18 Yr old best!) but 12 year old still outstanding. Also look at the Hibiki line. The 30 year old stuff is suppose to be magical-but at $3000 per bottle I don't think I will ever know.

But the Japanese whiskeys are really superb and every bit as good as Scottish stuff nowadays.

Thank you for your input. I will definitely try some of these selections. I usually purchase the same make and model each time and forget to experiment. GlenLivit 18 is my go to.

Costco in Scottsdale has Glenmorangie Signet for $169. Amazing scotch at an amazing price, IMO.
