Scotch

I'm drinking some 12 yo Macallan right now. I'm relatively new to scotch so I'm concentrating on the highlands. Wonderful stuff this scotch...

 

I'm drinking a 12 year old Balvenie right now. pretty good but I'm no expert.

 

Good stuff. Try Laphroaig 15 next.

Great scotch at insanely low price is the 12yr Aberlour "double cask" (Cherry/Oak casks). Goes on Sale all the time for $25-28. So smooth and just a tad different being aged in cherry casks. Welcome to Scotch!

 

Awesome! Thanks for the recommend. I love when scotch is double casked. It really brings a different flavor into the mix.

 

I'm drinking the Laphroaig 10 cask strength as I type! Lagavulin 16 is my all time favorite.

 

You're welcome, you are right about it bringing out the flavors. This is the deal of all deals out there right now. It's so smooth. I hope you can find it where you shop!

 

The Lagavulin is great! I don't think the Distillers Edt is better since the extra years in the sherry casks has robbed it of it's character...

If you can find it, go for the 25yrs version. Not sure it is worth the premium, though, but I found one in Sweden. Since the "Systembolaget" does not add a "collectors premium" sometimes you can make bargains!

If you like peaty, smoky malts, try Bruichladdich Octomore....

 

Oban 14 and Macallan 18 are my usual favorites. I'm also fairly new to the world of scotch though

 

not bad but you should try Bruichladdich islay single malt Scotch 1990.

Try The Singleton 12 year....IMHO it's the best value for the money (under $30)

 

tonight I bought a bottle of Aberlour Single Malt, Double cask matured (oak and sherry), 12 years old.

so far, so good!

 

Laphroaig ten year cask strength is one I do enjoy

 

If it's extreme peatiness you're after, try Caol Ila.

 

My "budget" buys are Dalmore 12, or Glenmorangie if I'm in the mood for something lighter. Both are around 45 bucks.

 

That peaty medicinal taste of the Laphroaig really kills it for me. I try to stay away from the Islay scotch because of that. I do really like the highland Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or or the coastal highland scotch, Clynelish.

 

My wife refers to Dalmore 12 as "Grandma's medicine"; a dose to be taken 20 minutes before bedtime.

 

Islay Scotch certainly isn't for everone. I come from a LONG line of Scotch drinkers (I'm named after House of Stuart) and I'm the only one who drinks "the smokey stuff".
