    Are those definitely scratches? Looks more like someone has run a paint brush down them before they were fitted. Marks go under the perch. Probably to indicate that they are ‘white’ stiffness.

    +1 as scratches typically don't flake off as you can see in the 3rd pic.

    Makes sense. I've also only seen the pictures, not the actual springs. What would generally be the reason for "marking" the springs in this fashion? I understand what you said @TheCook in regards to the stiffness. Could make sense.

    It's a colour code for the spring rate. Red, white, and yellow were available with red being the highest rate.
