This bike listed for $3995. My mechanic plans to buy it if its not a fraud. Would require travelling about 2000 miles round trip to see it, pay cash, no long-distance scam etc.

So If he would sell it to me for maybe $6K, do you think that is a SCREAMING DEAL??????????

    Ad:2005 Ducati S2R

Uro: a typo lurks: the retail price you list is lower than the screamingly good deal. Frankly, I would think that price break is not unusual for a used one of these, even a mildly used one. The factor here may be that this is still a relatively new model, yes? So there may not be many around. Also, keep in mind that Duc dealers tend to discount last year's inventory and some of these bikes just don't move for some reason. I don't think it's a rip off, but i don't think it's a steal, either (unless it's stolen, if you get what i mean). Yeah, the only add on thing there that cost real money is the Arrows, right?

No typo, My mechanic would travel 2000 miles buy it for $4k, I'd pay him~$6K , i.e. 2k for his trouble. Thanks for the info, i searched cycletrader and the asking was ~$8K for almost all of these, before all the goodies on this one.

That is a remarkable deal. It's a great price for the bike itself, and if you've ever priced Ducati Performance items, you'll see that, in toto, it is in fact a screaming good deal.

But, really, you should be stashing this money towards a Ferrari.

you'll have to pardon my ignorance, but, what do you do about the lien on the bike?

oh yeah, and that is a sweet ass bike. I have never seen it before. Classic looking.

Scam all the way. I have been looking for an S2R for a while until I decided to go with the new S2R1000. For the last few months there have been at least 15 749's and 999's for 3k or 4k buy it now and they are all scams. Think about it, why would someone sell an 05 S2R for 3k when I am sure the local dealer would pay 6 all day long. Used ones are 8000+ still. Call and get the vin and check it out. It probably won't even get that far.

I've done a lot of looking at these over the past few months. I even saw that ebay ad and thought "If it's too good to be true......". As for now, with all this extra hurricane work, I'm going to put my deposit down on one next Saturday. Red with white stripe/white wheels please! ;)

Sorry, I misunderstood Uro's reference to the 'listed' price. This bike, stock, retails for what, under 9 grand US?
Are they in short supply? (Dave 328 talked about placing a deposit, suggesting that the bike had to be ordered, or at least obtained from a factory distribution center). I know the bike got good reviews, and is desirable as a useable sports/standard, but i'm suprised that it would hold value in the used market unless they are scarce. Aren't these bikes worth at least 20% less than retail the moment they roll out the door? And, in my experience, even desirable add-ons don't recoup much (or add alot to the selling price).
    Or am I just insane?

Hey Uro where in MN is it? I live close to St Paul and can check it out to see if it is a real bike or not.

They just came out in 05 and they are fairly hard to get now as 05's are scarce and 06's haven't really hit yet. As of now, the new S2R1000 is going to replace the S2R800 as the bike to get so I think the demand will shift to that and the S2r's will be popping up used.

The dealer in Houston had an '05 S2R red/white/white on the floor but sold it 3 weeks ago. I was told that getting another one would be no problem at all. Now we haven't talked price yet, (I'll be back in Houston next weekend), so I'm not sure if he was talking about an '05 or an '06. AFIK, the '05 is stickered @ $8495 and the '06 @ $8995 and the S2R 1K will be $9995. Call me a *******, but since this will be my first ever street bike, I don't think it wise to jump right into a 1 liter bike! ;) so the base S2R it will be. Getting kinda excited already!

Not that i'm a hondler, but i recall getting a discount, and aftermarket pipes, plus rear sprocket change, from BCM ducati when i bought my first bike from them, a new Monster 750 Sie. They also gave me an across the board discount on anything else, gear, etc. that i bought from them thereafter. They are in Laconia, NH>

Based on the smell of scamzilla here it'd be worth the $6K for someone else to waste their time and providing it was for real.

you know bigger ain't necessarily better.

You get those big buckets going fast and that heavy crank spinning and the literbikes just don't want to flick thru corners like the middleweights even if total bike weight, steering angle etc is identical.

I swear: give me a 600 any day vs a literbike in the twisties.
