When I started my 360 6-speed this morning, I did so with my foot pressing the clutch pedal to the floor (gearbox in neutral, if that matters). I heard a screeching noise for about 3 seconds. When I took my foot off of the clutch, the screeching immediately stopped, and when I pushed the clutch down again, I heard nothing. It has not happened since, but this worries me. I don't know if this would matter, but it was very cold this morning when I started the car.
Any clues? Could it have been a fan belt and just coincidence?

Very likely the AC belt screeching considering the conditions you describe. Was is in condensing atmosphere?

Only thing that can screech with the clutch is the throwout bearing, and those can usually go quite a while without falling apart, for sure if the noise does not come on every time. My 124 spider did such screeching regularly, drove it for another 5k before exchanging the throwout bearing together with the clutch. Every time it screeched I just repressed the pedal again and it would be fine. Will never know how long it would have lasted if the starter motor did't give up.

Just watch it, if the noise does not return and occur during regular driving you'll be OK.

Thank you for the info. I feel better! My clutch and all of the associated parts are fairly new.

Also, the cam belt tensioner bearings can squeel when cold for a few secnds until the grease redistributes itself.

I had the same exact noise and symptons described by the OP. After a few months the throw out bearing completely cracked and all the clutch fluid leaked out. This was in a 355 though.

Well let's see if I can confuse the issue a bit by adding one more possibility ---- pilot bearing failing. With the clutch disengaged (pedal depressed) there is rotational load on the bearing as the input shaft is stationary, but the bearing is spinning on it --- along with the flywheel. But, when the clutch is released, the shaft is spinning with the bearing / flywheel at the same rate --- no rotational forces on the bearing. Bearing noise can come and go until the bearing gets seriously damaged, and it will then make the noise every time you disengage the clutch.

BTW, are you sure your pilot bearing was indeed replaced with the recent clutch service? Replacing the pilot bearing is often "skipped" on clutch replacements........:(

I must have started and run the car yesterday at least a dozen times. I was careful to push the clutch in when starting (something I don't usually do, I just double check to make sure the transmission is in neutral) and it never happened again. I should have tried to start it this morning before taking off to work (because it is very cold again) but forgot.

When I recently ruptured my intercooler and had the transmission completely apart, I'm pretty sure Brian replaced everything (differential clutch packs, etc.).
