When the ACEMCO team decided to withdraw their Saleen from the GT1 class at LeMans (because the ACO wanted them to run a smaller wing than they felt safe with), the first alternate was the Larbre Ferrari 550 team that was in the race last year.

Instead, another Porsche GT2 entry was invited, even though they were only the 4th alternate. The reason given by the French was as follows:

"The next reserves [the Larbre Competition Ferrari F 550 Maranello, the Racing for Holland Dome and the GPC Sport SRL Ferrari 360 Modena] did not respect the terms of their entry by 13th April as laid down in the rules."

Now, what the heck is that supposed to mean??

The decison was made in good faith. That is all I am going to say on this issue.

It very well could be that they didn't have all of their paper work in order or their fees paid on time. Those other teams simply didn't have all their ducks in a row, so to speak.

Ferrari has little hope in any race against a Porsche in its class! Lets hope Porsche doesn't get back into F1 like they once did with TAG...because if they do, all bets are off and Porsche will again be the F1 Championship constructor!

You mean as an engine supplier. When it comes to building an entire single seat racing car, Porsche doesn't have a clue-they couldn't cut it in Indycar, let alone in F1. Their last F1 engine was an embarassment-grossly overweight and underpowered. Besides, they build SUVs now.

Funny, I just came in from waxing my 911 thinking how Porsche lost the plot....

Porsche may have lost the plot but Penske may begin a new chapter when he brings the new LMP-2 entry to the ALMS.

As for Le Mans, yes the rules are archiac and seem to be made up as they go along but, none the less, this does not keep the 24 Hours from being the most important race in the world.

Ferrari fans may take heart as we were told at Sebring by Care Racing/Labre Competition that they will have three 550 GT Maranellos at the 24 Hours which should give the Corvettes and Aston Martins fits. JMB will enter one of their 575 GTBs.

well it is kind of well documented that LeMans officials hate Ferrari since back in the old days. They have done a lot of "changes" to make sure Ferrari could not be competitive and tried to foil their effort to win at LeMans.
I will leave it at that.
The reason JMB comes in is simple, they hate Ferrari but love their own. After all JMB is a French team :)
